‘What do I do after I’ve decided to opt for an MBA degree?’ was one of the questions that kept running in my mind while preparing for competitive exams & filtering colleges that fit in my list from financial and personal aspects. Being a fresher not only has its own advantages in knowing the current need of the students around but also it has disadvantages of not having work experience and on-field knowledge.
Choosing a specialization is where graduates get stuck. Everybody wants to have a sector or a field with them which promises a stable and better future. After all, once you’re a part of any b-school you will start to think about the return on your investments! You will think and accordingly target on the specialization that attracts your attention and speaks to you; something that will pique your interest towards a particular subject.
After researching about the various sectors in the market I realized, that the healthcare sector is one of the largest and fastest growing sectors in the world. It is considered one of the largest sectors; both in terms of revenue & employment. Healthcare management includes all health-related services right from managing hospitals and healthcare centres, working in a health insurance company to pharmaceutical companies. It operates at the intersection of medical sciences, technology and management science along with ethical and legal aspects. If we look at it from the future perspective, we get a recession-proof niche. This niche is created because of the ever growing population not only in our country but all across the globe. With this increase in population, there is a rapid increase in the diseases, health ailments but at the same time, new technology and medicines are also being developed to curb the existing, a few unforeseen diseases and their circumstances. Simultaneous growth in population, disease and curative measures eventually open more doors to employment. Organizations and companies are ready to pay a bomb in order to hire people who have knowledge of the managerial subjects as well as the basics of technical subjects like epidemiology and biotechnology. Many startups in the healthcare sector also look for prerequisites like managerial knowledge and technical clarity.
A post graduate diploma course in healthcare management gives novice graduates an edge over other courses after graduation. It teaches them the dynamics of the current trends in the market and also prepares them for the new advancements in the country. It helps them to update their knowledge about the continuously changing business environment so that they can apply these management techniques at the organizational level. The graduates are prepared to face all the upcoming problems in the healthcare industry. The youth of today is the future of tomorrow!
People can talk about a particular topic if they have experienced it themselves first. I, being a part of the very first batch of PGDM Healthcare Management at KJSIMSR experienced the best facilities any graduate can ask for at a b-school. The guest lectures here have provided a plethora of opportunities to think and work on. Peer to peer learning and engaging classroom activities have made sure I gain new experiences and talk to new people. The student-driven committees in the college give equal opportunities to the students to grow and learn.
The opportunities in this sector are a vast ocean of knowledge and possibilities to develop a better future for yourself and the country as well. There is an increase in demand for healthcare providers, counselors, advisers and their services. Online services like apps and other artificial intelligence techniques are required in the current scenario. Consultancy firms along with private and public healthcare systems are keeping their best foot forward to create a better and prosperous nation.
So choose what you would like to do after your graduation with utmost care and understand your area of benefit accordingly.
And remember, ‘Whatever choice you make, makes you. Choose wisely!’ – Roy Bennett.
