In today’s world, where superficiality has clouded our minds and we find it nearly impossible to go beyond what meets the eyes? But then there are a few wanderers who find solace in discovering the true meaning of their lives. Those who are not satisfied by the simple answers given to them, but they seek to look above and beyond. Are you one of those lost souls looking to find yourself? Have the questions like ‘who am I?’, ‘where am I headed?’ haunted you forever? Well, then your soul-searching could encompass another dimension in a b-school. A b-school pushes your limits, makes you explore your potential and strives to make you not just the jack of all trades, but also the master of all. And in an attempt to do so, you end up questioning everything and discovering the essence of your endeavour. The academic rigour that you go through in an MBA program is like no other. The endless series of quizzes and exams are meant to make you tackle pressure and perform well even under stress. It is at those moments that you begin to question the importance of each and every subject that you study. And believe it or not, every subject matter, even mathematics, has been derived from nature itself. And when you begin to question the subject matter of the pedagogy, it is then that you feel like you are getting an in-depth understanding of the subject. For example, if you think deeply, behind all the 4 Ps and 5 Cs and 'value proposition' concepts of marketing, there is nothing but behavioural science, the study of human behaviour, human nature. If you can master the study of understanding how a person would think, you can anticipate his reaction to your product. And that’s a marketer’s dream. But MBA is not just academic excellence. You need to hone up all other aspects of your overall growth. The extracurricular activities happening in and around the campus, form an important part (if not a formal one) of the coveted degree. One of the most important things you learn from them is taking all the outcomes (success or failure) in the right spirit. Developing the understanding that not every outcome is going to be according to your desires, and accepting the same is the key here. Perseverance definitely pays off. But the take-home is the ability to pull yourself together and keep moving. People say MBA is all about 'networking'. Although it is a fact that your fellow mates are expected to help you for your future career growth, the truth is superficial relationships never work. It is those deep, meaningful bonds that you build in these 2 years, that would keep going. It is with these people that you would stay connected and would strive to help each other out in times of need. It is essential that you find your group of people who you can rely on, and who can rely on you. 'Peer-learning' is the term used in b-schools. When you interact with umpteen number of people with heterogeneous socio-cultural and educational background, you open yourself to infinite ways of thinking and varied perspectives. This is one of the most important pillars of self-actualisation. An MBA education helps you understand people and life, at large. In totality, the world of management is an ocean of endless opportunities, not just in terms of building a career but also defining life and being able to look at the big picture. It is up to you, the seeker, to dive deep and bring out the best you can and revel in the knowledge that is meant to enlighten your soul.
