MICA. The land of marketeers' birth. For most aspirants, MICA is a top option to pursue a specialised MBA in Marketing. However, according to official sources, only 10% of the total students who appear for BOTH MICATS are shortlisted for GE and PI based on the total scaled MICAT Scaled Score. This article will attempt at simplifying and explaining the selection process followed by MICA for screening the candidates. Step 1 - Give CAT/XAT/GMAT You need to give at least one of these exams. If you appear for two of these, or all three, the better of two/ best of three exams performance will be considered. Bottom line, the results of only ONE of these exams will be considered.   Step 2 - MICAT and Shortlist for GE/PI MICAT has 6 sections, and all the candidates are judged on all 6 of these. However, the first thing that a candidate must crack is the Psychometric test. You must attempt to be honest because the purpose of this test is to understand if you are a good fit for MICA. If you qualify in the psychometric test, your performance in for CAT/XAT/GMAT will be considered. Meeting the cut-off in these will lead to being assessed for the following sections of MICAT - Verbal ability (VA), Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation (QADI), General awareness (GA), and Divergent and Convergent Thinking (DCT). The Descriptive Test will be analysed at the next stage. If you meet the minimum cut-off requirements in all the above - CAT/XAT/GMAT and the following sections of MICAT: Verbal ability (VA), Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation (QADI), General awareness (GA), and Divergent and Convergent Thinking (DCT), you will be judged on the basis of your DT - Descriptive Test. If you meet the minimum scaled cut-off in DT, you will be considered for the GE/PI shortlist. Unlike most b-schools which include a round of Group Discussion, MICA has inculcated a Group Activity instead. You will receive scores on the basis of GE and PI, and finally, a Final Composite Score will be prepared. This will be the basis of the final merit sheet. The Final Composite Score gives weightage to the different sections as under:

CAT/XAT/GMAT - 20%
MICAT - 30%
GE - 20%
PI - 30%

The Institute doesn't announce the exact cut-offs, but you can derive some idea from the fact that around 1/10th of total candidates who appear in both the MICATs are shortlisted for the GE/PI rounds. ----- To know more about Marketing as a Career Option, attend our FREE event on Konversations on Marketing Careers on 7th October 2017 at Bangalore.
