The three weeks before the CAT exam is the most crucial for preparation. A proper and focused approach in these days can push up your accuracy, boost your scores, and allow you to revise important concepts before the D-Day. It is also during these days that candidates face the most uncertainty and doubts. A few essential tips to keep in mind to make the most of the last mile before CAT 2020 are:
Maximize Mock Test Attempts
Every year, candidates are advised to attempt as many mock tests as possible, especially in the days leading to CAT. This not only gives you practice but also lets you build up the concentration and stamina you need for the D-Day. Due to the changes in the exam duration this year, you must defintely attempt the official mock test by IIM Indore. Also, remember to make a note of your mistakes and keep pushing to improve your accuracy.
Revise Essential Concepts And Formulae
In addition to giving mock tests, remember to note down all important concepts and formulae, and keep revising them in the days before CAT. This is especially important for the QA section, which tests concepts from multiple areas, and involves many formulae.
Stay Away From New Concepts
Refrain from studying concepts you have avoided so far since that might lead to additional stress in the last few days. Focus on topics you are comfortable with and those which have constituted a significant portion of previous years's exams. In CAT, you need to prioritize accuracy over the number of questions you attempt and this can be achieved by prioritizing concepts you are familiar with.
Do Not Overdo Practice
During the days leading to CAT 2020, the key to success will be to relax and not let nervousness get the better of you. Make sure to be totally relaxed and rejuvenated on the exam day so that your mind is sharp and ready to perform at 100% capacity.
Remain Motivated
In the last few days, it is crucial to keep yourself in high spirits. Spend time with friends and family. Do not let your performance in mock tests or your preparation cause you anxiety. If you feel stressed, reach out to people who have given CAT in the past years, since their experiences will help you focus yourself.
Checklist for the D-Day
- Remember to take ample rest the day before the exam. Get proper sleep and avoid taking mock tests. You can go through your formulae notes if you wish.
- The admit card must be downloaded from the official IIMCAT website before the exam date. Your CAT 2020 admit card must have the same passport size photo as the one uploaded along with the CAT 2020 application form. So, make sure you paste the same image on it.
- DO NOT sign your admit card as it has to be done at the exam centre in the invigilator's presence.
- At the CAT 2020 exam centre, you will be required to present a photo identity card provided by the government. This could be a College ID, Employer ID, Driving License, Passport, PAN Card, Voter ID, or Aadhaar card.
- Check the examination centre the previous day, if possible. Also, reach the centre before the time specified on the admit card.
While giving the exam, make sure that you do not get stuck on any particular question and divide your time smartly between the different types of problems in the section. Make sure that you do not miss out on the easy questions. Attempt the exam just like another of the mock tests that you are so used to.
In the end, the most important thing to remember is to
believe in yourself. Months of practice have led to this moment. You got this!
Happy CAT 2020 to everyone.
