Cementing Innovation - Mr. Ramesh Joshi, UltraTech Cement Ltd (RMC Division)

The Vinod Gupta School of Management, IIT Kharagpur had the privilege of hosting Mr. Ramesh Joshi, Sr. Vice President & Head Business, UltraTech Cement Ltd India for a talk as part of “Vaarta” - the institute's flagship industry expert guest lecture series, on 29 August 2019. Mr. Joshi, who initiated and nurtured RMC business as a start-up venture has almost three decades of experience in all the facets of cement business with over 17 years in leadership roles directing teams on various domains.

The session started on a motivational spree whereby Mr. Joshi stressed upon the importance of switching between the roles of a leader and a team player as and when the situation demands while upholding the right value system. His insightful mantra that consequences can change based on one’s belief and activity will motivate us to have an optimistic attitude towards the various challenges of life.

UltraTech Cement is the flagship organization of Aditya Birla Group. With an overall capacity of 102 million metric tonnes, it is the largest manufacturer of cement and Ready Mix Concrete in India. Mr. Joshi discussed the challenges that an organization faces while growing through mergers and acquisitions. Being the first to promote the RMC Construction industry and gradually increasing the RMC penetration in India, Mr. Joshi explored how RMC is gradually changing the face of Indian infrastructure and engineering projects. On one hand, riding on the innovation wave, UltraTech is leading the way towards smart cities and metro railway projects. On the other hand, it aims to strive for sustainable growth and environment protection by introducing the first zero discharge RMC plant in the world.
