Would there be anyone who has not faced a challenge in his/her life? I guess, no. Challenges are a part of life which make us learn our strengths and weaknesses and work on them for the future perspective. If a person is not aware of his weaknesses, then how can the person improve those factors to reach greater heights? Challenges help a person to become resilient. It helps to become a better version of yourself. A life without challenges seems to be kind of pointless.
Many of us would have faced a point in our life when we have to choose either post-graduation or a job. I was no different. I, Sahil Rawat, completed my B. Tech in 2016. During the final year, I saw people working hard to get into a post-graduation school, while others were working hard for getting a job. I was among those who were confused which would be a better path to opt at that time. I consulted some of my friends and decided to sit for CAT (just to check how it goes). With passing time, I felt myself to be more inclined towards the CAT and not towards the job. I scored a decent percentile and was eligible for good B-school interviews. But still, I wasn’t sure that I should be opting for the B-school as a fresher. I took time and thought what I should be doing is having some work experience and I believed that I can perform better in CAT. So, I decided to get a job.
Once the job started, it took its pace in no time. I was completely occupied in the shifts and how the time used to pass, I had no clue. It went on for one and a half year. I still remember the day, I was walking on a road, how is my life turning out. I am not working on the plans I had for myself and need to get back on the road, which I wanted to go on. I decided to study for MBA. But studying while working alongside was not easy for me. As I had shift system in my job, I had to change my routine from time to time. On 1
st August, I decided to focus mainly on the MBA and for that I needed to spend more time on studies, so I wrote my resignation letter and send it to my manager. Everyone said, “It is a risky move”. But I had decided that I need to put my full focus on CAT. Now, I am delighted about the step I took at that time as now I have started studying International Management from MDI Gurgaon. There is a lot to learn from the faculty and peers. I have now started walking on the path I wanted to choose and there is a lot to learn and a lot of challenges to face. It’s just a part of life to face the challenges and learn. And that’s how life goes on.
Why ABG is big in your life?
Everyone has some kind of dream. I also had a dream to have an awesome farewell at my school. The school days are full of energy and excitement. But it can be turned the other way round if the things don’t go as per plan. Like every other student, I wanted to impress others during the farewell time. I wanted the last meet to be memorable and be remembered by my batch mates.
As it was the last days of the school, everyone was excited and planning for the upcoming days. Some were deciding what to perform for the different competitions, some were focused on how to express their emotions to their special ones while some of them were focused on what to wear for the dress competition (formal). I was one of them who were focused on what to wear for the dress competition. I remember the time sitting in a class and thinking about what I’ll wear. I discussed with my friends, asked them what are they planning to wear for the farewell. There were many choices among Allen Solly, Burberry, Raymond, Van Heusen, and many others. I came back home and told my parents about the farewell. The answer which I got for the formal attire was, “Buy a cheap one, it’s just for one occasion”. But it wasn’t good enough for me. I told my parents how important it was for me. For a couple of days, I was sad because I saw everyone planning for the farewell and I was not fine with things running at that time. I was planning to miss the farewell, and just sit at home. I believe my parents saw what I was going through. They agreed to buy me a new suit of my choice. I was so happy at that time that I just was not able to believe it. Finally, I came to my senses and decided to go and choose the one suit which I was going to wear.
We went from shop to shop, it had been 3 hours when we checked the first shop. Finally, I founded the one suit which I liked and decided to wear it on my farewell. It was Van Heusen. Yes, the company with the tag line “The Way Forward: Evolve Everyday” provided me the way forward. I was now so excited about farewell. I felt that now again I am a part of the farewell. I wasn’t able to wait for the farewell day and show my suit to everyone. I just was so excited about it and finally, the day came. I am usually not nervous about my looks, but that day I felt so many things. I was nervous and I was excited. I was simply full of emotions. Finally, when I reached my school, everyone complimented me about the looks.
There was something more to happen that day. I was awarded the title of Best Dressed Man on that day. It couldn’t have gone better than that. I was so happy and felt so good at that time, I couldn’t figure out what to say at that time. But I do know what to say now. Have dreams in your life, doesn’t matter big or small. It feels so good when you live that dream. There is no alternative to that feeling and it is something everyone should be able to relate when he/she had that feeling of living the dream they just wanted so badly.
