Quoting Father of our Nation, Mahatma Gandhi- “Be the change that you wish to see in the world”.  The proverb provokes a thought, what is the change that the world wants? In the wake of 21st century when things are changing lightning-like, whether it be your mobile phone, clothing preferences or as simple as the toothpaste you use, being static in terms of consumer policies or rigid market strategy is not an option for any company you are acquainted with because if we were meant to stay in one place we’d have roots instead of feet. So how does one go about adapting to change? The first thing to do is – come out of the comfort zone, plunge into what you dream of irrespective of how crazy it may seem, and be the person who moved the mountain by carrying away stones because change is inevitable and if you won’t, then somebody will and no one loves being second.

Why ABG is Big in my life?

To begin with, I would ask you to look at and around yourself. Do you see someone wearing Allen Solly, Van Heusen, Peter England shirt or someone using an Idea sim to make a call or a construction site using Ultratech cement? It’s nearly impossible for you to spend a minute of your life not using or not seeing anyone using any product that this conglomerate gives out to the market. Who would have thought that a company whose roots dates back to the 19th century and has a foundation of trading in cotton will grow out to be one of the largest Indian private sector conglomerates and become a necessity to its customers out there in the market? Stating the relevance of this, not all steps are taken considering the consequences they will generate because, as rightly said, “Trends are about as fickle as the direction of the wind; as are the legacies of those who flow with them” and Aditya Birla Group has never disappointed me at any stance in my life.  I come from a family business background where my father is a retail seller of suiting and shirting and one of the most prominent suiting brands he stocks is Grasim. I have always been keen into business operations and have the first-hand experience in customer dealing. After numerous interactions with consumers and understanding their response towards the brand image and its adaptation to growing needs of consumers, I have gained a conclusion that Grasim has outperformed all its competitors, making it one of the most desirable brands in my father’s business. This might seem flattery but their actions have proven the truth of their words.

How Have I Made an Impact?

Change requires small steps taken to pursue long term objectives. I took my step by joining the National Service Scheme as part of the Education Wing to impart education to the underprivileged kids of class 1-5. Every Monday and Wednesday evening, away from the chaos of the college hostel, the smile on the face of these children was my biggest source of solace.  The motivation that a small effort on my part would change someone else’s life drove me to that place every week. I did the same thing for three consecutive years and by the time I was graduating, some of these kids were also completing their primary education. During their farewell, a girl came to us and said: “Thank You”. On being asked the reason for it, she stated that this will be the last time she will be sitting in the classroom because her parents have already fixed her marriage and she was happy that she could learn this much. Till date, I carry a mixed feeling of how proud and helpless I felt at that moment but the impact was visible. To sum up I would say that, just like Aditya Birla Group, be the part of the change and take chances in life because “you miss 100 percent of the shots you never take”.
