It started when my alarm rang at 5:30 in the morning. My mother was trying to wake me up. Less did she know that I could not get any sleep that night. I was about to attend my first interview, that anxiety was killing me.
I went to take a bath and get ready. My mother started preparing breakfast. She packed some pooris in freshwrapp so that they remain fresh and I can eat it on my way. I dressed up in a perfect fit Van Heusen formal suit, collected all my documents in a file, carried all the necessary things in a Ted Baker handbag as it has ample space to carry whatever you want. My father booked a cab. He accompanied me and wore a Peter England shirt which I gifted him on his birthday to make me feel good.
On reaching the center, my father paid the cab bill through the fast and easy Bhim app. He composed me and I went in for the interview. I greeted the interviewer, answered most of the questions and was super happy.
I ran towards my father, hugged him tightly. He had tears in his eyes. Handing me a beautiful Forever 21 dress as a reward, my father said that he knew I would perform well. I didn’t know that this incident would make me feel so confident about myself, that one day I could crack the interview of IIFT.

Like every other student has aspirations in life, so did I. I dreamt of working in an organization, all dressed up in fancy formal suits. I was born and brought up in Meerut, a small town where the number of opportunities was not such that I could fulfil my dream. After completing my higher secondary exam, I decided to take up science in class 11
TH and prepare for the IITJEE exam.
I moved out of home after 10
th to take classes in Delhi for the preparation of IITJEE. It was my first experience of living as a paying guest. The feelings were mixed. I didn’t have the slightest of clue, how it was going to be. The very first day, I woke up and realized that I was late for class. I had to skip breakfast and rush to the class. That day, I realized there was so much our parents do which we never even realize. Coping up with this new environment was a big challenge.
It took me long to get adapted to the changing surroundings. I didn’t realize that it will have an adverse impact on my studies. This resulted in a decline in my senior secondary results. I didn’t do well in IITJEE as well. These challenges helped me learn that change is the new constant. If one has to achieve things in life, we have to deal with situations where things don’t work our way. Since then, I never let anything affect my journey towards success. It’s been 7 years I have been away from home and it has been a beautiful journey.
