Being a resident of Bhubaneswar, I grew up in the vicinity of XIMB. XIMB was 10 years older to me, yet we grew up together, honing ourselves every step of the way and trying to make a difference. As a kid, I’d pass through the road overlooking the campus and be amazed at the success stories my dad would often iterate about the XIMB alumni, some of whom happened to be his friends. Since its inception, the college had conveniently managed to woo the masses in this quiet city of Bhubaneswar and the state of Odisha, slowly garnering national recognition. But there was this mysterious veil surrounding the college which has always intrigued me. No one ever seemed to know about what goes about inside the college and the students were hardly seen futzing around the city.  The only source of information was through the social media and news channels that talked about various achievements and accolades the college received. This conditioned me to place the college on a high moral pedestal and I desperately wanted to be a part of it. Eventually, I moved to Chennai to pursue Engineering at SRM University. By the end of 3 years, I was convinced that engineering was not my calling. I wanted to exploit my communication skills and hone my ambitious personality to achieve sizeable heights. The only way to do that, was MBA. I appeared for the exams and got a call from XIMB. “XIMB”, the college I’ve been dazing about for the longest time. My happiness knew no bounds. I had cracked the GD/WAT/PI rounds and got selected for the BM program and that was it. That was the ethereal plan laid out for me and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Through its 30 years of legacy, tremendous alumni base, carefully mapped pedagogy and multitudinous accolades in various corporate competitions together with several student committees working tirelessly for their alma mater, it has emerged as one of the premier B-schools of this country; and rightly so. Coming here, I realised why none of us in Bhubaneswar knew much about this college or its students. There’s so much to do, so much to learn, so many inquisitive minds to explore, in this 20 acre campus, that you wouldn’t get the time to go out neither would you want to. It is said that this campus never sleeps and now that I’m a part of it, I’ve come to realise why. Which ABG Company I would like to work for and why? I would like to work for Hindalco since it is one of the oldest companies owned by the group and is the flagship company of ABG in the metal business. Hindalco is known for its employee-friendly HR policies while some say it’s like a semi-government company in terms of perks and benefits. Having undergone an internship at NALCO for a month, I had witnessed first-hand that working for a metal manufacturing sector is not an easy task. Even as a manager, one would have to work under testing conditions and environment. I want to take it up as a challenge since it would shape me to be more competitive, flexible and adaptive. Hindalco has a global presence and it would help me gain extensive knowledge in the sector and expose me to the global market scenario that can be leveraged for my growth in the company.   -  Anurag Mohanty BM,1st year,XIMB
