One of your life experiences which revealed an unconventional approach to a problem in managing a situation at work/life.
When we talk about films, we always talk about the stories, actors, performances, music and stuff. We only talk about how good or bad the final product is. But every film, be it good or bad will face obstacles at every small stage.
To start with, film making is all about managing, be it people, their thoughts, their perspectives, their judgements. It is important that everyone working for the film works for a single vision rather than having one of their own that doesn't sync with others. And the guy who makes sure that the majority of the people working for the film are on the same page is the director of the film. The transformation of a small idea into a script and finally to a visual story is just magical.
One experience I had about managing the obstacles on a film set was in my college. We had a film making competition. And that was my first real attempt to do something related to films. We required a coffee shop to shoot our idea. But we weren't given permission as it was a weekend and the place seems crowded. But I was so adamant to change the location because of the lighting ambience that coffee shop offers. So we came up with an idea of secretly shooting while one of us orders something at the counter. We shot some part but it wasn't coming off as we wanted. What was supposed to be fixed camera shots were turned to follow shots. To elaborate, we had a small camera which would fit on one of the trolley chairs in the shop. We carefully shot everything as if we were moving the chair from one place to other. And we did all of this for a 2minute video competition. The real crowd in the video who didn't know we were shooting made the film look so real and we stood as runner ups. This is one of the most memorable experiences I had.
Later I realised how managing things or the constraints we face irrespective of the kind work we do is key. The gut feeling to stick to what we believe in any kind of situation is always important. And at the end of the day constraints make you original. #IITKanpur
