Although there were many classroom experiences which were worthy to be remembered, I would like to spell out one memorable experience encountered by me in our b-school.
26-06-2017 Monday.
It was the first day after the commencement of the course. It had to be, the memorable one. The first day undoubtedly was a strange experience for me considering the fact that I had entered a classroom after a gap of almost 4 years. I could see the emotions mixed with joy, anxiety and apprehension all at once on every student’s face. The reason was the feeling of ‘you have landed in one of the reputed institutions in the country after putting all the hard work it takes to be there’. After a few minutes of wait, the professor of Written ability and Communication course (WAC) walks in and immediately asks the question, why MBA?
Students, as expected, involved in class participation and each one provides his/her own perspective of why MBA? Some were inclined to view MBA as a major step to change their career paths while many stressed on the fact that MBA provides them with the rich experience of peer-to-peer learning and a few others, especially the freshers emphasized on the gravity of knowledge that they would gain before stepping onto the corporate world.
The professor listened patiently to all the responses provided by the students before penning down his thoughts. He gave a remarkable answer highlighting the importance of pursuing an MBA. He said, “Networking is a key to move forward in your career and MBA helps in developing that.” As cliché it might sound, the importance of his answer was not realized by many at that point of time but it slowly started to sink in, in the months to come.
The first-day classroom experience was memorable for three major reasons. Firstly, as I had mentioned earlier that it was my first day at an institution after such a long gap in my academic career. Secondly, the diversity of the students present in the class made me realize there is a lot to learn and unlearn from each one when they put forward his/her thoughts. And lastly, the knowledge that I could gain from the professor. Coupled with these moments, everyone was anxious throughout the day if the programmes office would conduct a surprise quiz as it was part of the curriculum, but to everyone’s relief, it did not happen on the first day. And that’s how the first day at IIM-U really looked like.
Which group of ABG would I like to work with?
As a finance enthusiast, I would definitely like to work with Aditya Birla Capital (ABCL) as it is one of the reputed and the largest financial services organization in the country. Since I did an internship with one of the NBFCs in the country, I have an understanding of how the industry works and I am confident that I would bring that experience if I am given a chance to work with ABCL. Apart from the BFSI sector, I would also like to work in the technology sector (Idea cellular Ltd) as I have a total of 4 years of work experience as a Network Engineer at Ericsson India.
