FMS has a campus that is mainly run by the students. The second year students mentor and teach students from the first year to help prepare for the summer placements. And then the first year student will also help the second years during their placements. All this greatly increases the bonding and camaraderie between the students. The relatively small batch size also helps in this regard. During the two years that a student spends studying at FMS, they get closely acquainted with about 600 other students, 200 in their own batch, 200 from the senior batch and 200 from the junior batch.

A memorable classroom experience in my B-school
Even before joining FMS, I had heard that Prof Suneja at FMS is a legendary teacher. He recently took a session during which he spoke about the work being done by the social service and entrepreneurship cell at FMS. They had adopted a village called Ramnagar, about an hour’s drive from Delhi. I found the way he spoke about the work being done there and his perspective on what are the problems that ail rural India to be very interesting. He spoke about Aravind Eye Care, which provides the cheapest cataract operations in the whole world and about how the inspiration it was drawn from McDonalds and about how similar things can be done to fix some of the other problems in rural healthcare.

Introducing - some of my crazy batchmates

Aditya Bhale: This is one of the liveliest people in my section and has a variety of experiences. He’s trained in classical music and is a brilliant singer. He’s done his engineering and then went on to pursue a masters in tabla and then later even did some research work at an IIT. He’s also had experience teaching people the tabla.

Shanky Garg: He is one of the people with non-engineering backgrounds. This itself is something that differentiates him from the rest of the batch. He also has crazy mimicking skills. He just needs 10 minutes to observe a person and is then able to mimic them with a lot of detail.

Manoj Boda: Another brilliant person from my section. He’s graduated from IIT Madras and has an year of work experience in consulting. He’s mad about motorcycles and own a Royal Enfield Classic and knows all the statistics related to his bike. His aim is to upgrade to a BMW.

Midhun Yazali: He is mad about dancing and is very good at it too. He’s able to recreate any kind of choreography within a week. He once danced in the Delhi metro to raise money for a competition.

Which ABG company would you want to work for and why?

I would like to work at Aditya Birla Retail Limited. I would like to do this because I’m interested in marketing as a domain and I think that the experience in the retail sector would be of a great benefit to me. This is also a sector that I’m not very familiar with right now and would love to get to explore. The company is also huge with a revenue of $43 billion and is one of the market leaders in this sector. Working at the Aditya Birla Group would also help me enhance my career with a lot of learning and development.
