Rajat Yadav from the Placement Committee had a chance to interact with Mohita Yadav discussing her journey at Aditya Birla Group. Here are some of the excerpts from her interview:
Rajat: Hi Mohita! First, let me thank you for agreeing to an interview session with us. Being part of the Aditya Birla Group Leadership Program is a dream for all! How did it help you?
Mohita: As an HR professional, the program gave me a lot of relevant exposure in the form of the international stint that I went through. They gave me a lot of freedom with my projects to experiment on new solutions, as well as impact the real organizational issues. In the second year at the program when we work on plant stints, we must look after multiple critical functions and roles. Because of the program you get these huge opportunities early on in your career, it’s challenging because you must step up, but the experience is very enriching.
Rajat: Great to know your experience and the exposure you got at the program. Could you elaborate on the nature of corporate exposure and challenges that you have had in your stint with ABG?
Mohita: Early on my role at ABG was employee communication across the company which meant I had to reach out to more than 44,000 employees in different remote corners of the country. ABG being a very big conglomerate has bases in almost every corner of the country, so the employee communication campaign we were running had a goal to reach every individual. The program had to reach the last person as well as make sense for them this was a huge challenge for us.
Rajat: True, it is one of the biggest challenges to reach different corners of the country. What did you do differently in ABGLP? How unique was the program as compared to different programs in the industry?
Mohita: Yes, it was quite unique. I will tell you why.
There are three basic things that make the program unique:
- The efforts the group and the Young Talent Management team put into building the program and post that the support we get from them. Your careers are focused and nurtured by them.
- The entire organisation nature and structure for helping us. They mentor you and give various opportunities to prove yourself.
- A lot of trust is placed in you, and you are given opportunities and support to try out new things.
Rajat: Yes. We all need trust from our employers as it gives us confidence and the hope to perform well. But what skills do you think we need, to enter and excel at the program in order to get that trust?
Mohita: The basic need of the program is to be open to opportunities and trying out new things. You can’t be working only in your comfort zone but would have to explore as the group believes in that. You must push your boundaries. You will be given a lot of responsibilities own up to them. You must know how to align your interest with the stakeholders. A spirit like this would help you a lot at ABGLP.
Rajat: Okay. What advice would you have for the students who are preparing for this program?
Mohita: Be confident about yourself. ABG goes to the best of the campuses and if you’re there on the list you have something in you. Do your best, be yourself because the group is diverse and there is space for everyone.
Rajat: Correct. You must believe in yourself if you are to go through any challenge. Since we have discussed all aspects, we wanted to know about the best experience you've had working at such a high level in a huge conglomerate.
Mohita: It would be difficult to say that I have only one or two best experiences. I had to reach out to a lot of people at senior management level due to the difficulties that I have faced, they have always been welcoming. This kind of support that I found is the experience that I found best.
Rajat: It was a great experience, Mohita. We thank you for sharing your insights into the program. We are sure it would motivate a lot of students and help them in achieving their dream to join ABGLP. We wish you all the best for your career at Aditya Birla Group.
Mohita: Thank You.
