Decoding The Word ManDevIan : What It Really Means

Here at MDI, we often hear and read the word ManDevIan

Be it the emails that start with “Hola ManDevIans”, the #ManDevIanForLife tag on social media or the promises of upholding this great ManDevIan legacy, the word is used in common parlance here.

People outside the campus also hear this word a lot. Ever wondered what does it really mean? Let me decode it for you today!

ManDevIan does mean someone from MDI... But let’s break the word and find out its real significance!

Man - This is exactly what it looks like. This part talks about any human being deemed worthy to enter the hallowed grounds of MDI. It refers to the individuals who have endured the test of times to make it till here and possess the grit to take this legacy to greater heights.

Dev - This part stands  for Development. The purpose of the institute is to develop a worthy candidate holistically. There are numerous activities going around the campus at a given time. The students are encouraged to seek them as opportunities to develop, grow and lead. The development is not particularly aimed towards management skills only, but also towards the society at large. The residents at MDI understand their responsibilities towards the community and society; and vow to contribute for the upliftment of the same in every way possible.

Ian - This part stands for imagination. With ever changing political, economic and technological scenarios around the world, the students at MDI are trained to be boundless and limitless in their creativity and imagination. This proves to be a critical distinguishing factor in order to become a disrupting force in the business world and the glories of our Alums is a testament that ManDevIans have excelled in this as well.

So put it all together, and you get ManDevIan - A person who has developed the skill of imagination and innovation, who is hard working, humble and has ingrained the strength and capability to stand the test of times.

A word, that doesn’t have any meaning in the English dictionary round the world, holds paramount importance to the people who come, live and walk out from the hallowed walls of this great institute. A word, which keeps resonating with the mind and heart of every person who becomes a part of this great legacy!
