June 4th 2018, In a place 72 km far from the hustle bustle of the metro city Chennai, the H.C Kothari Hall of Institute of Financial Management and Research was witnessing the inauguration program for its 19th batch under the eminent presence of corporate masters and educationalist along with learned professors and students who had achieved those seats with the power of their learning and rigorous practice. At 9:30 AM the program was started by lighting of lamp followed by welcome address by Prof. Kamal Ghosh, Acting Resident Director IFMR B school who made it very clear to the students that to survive in the industry they need to have their fundamentals clear. He emphasized on having the base strong and then building up the career. The wisdom kept on flowing with Guest of honour Mr.T.A Varghese Global Business HR Head drawing the attention of students towards the role of practice and learning to transform into knowledge and finally knowledge turning into wisdom. The speaker took various examples of cricket to make the future executives aware about the various ups and downs of life, in his words “ You won’t always get a flat pitch to bat on, sometime the track will be bouncy and sometimes the ball will be seaming”. The atmosphere in the hall was electrified when the Chief Guest Mr. Vikas Gupta took hold of the mic and in his own class of style made sure that students understand the interaction between man-machine and technology, he made the gathering aware about the future challenges that IOT, BIG DATA, and other technological advances have brought. He made students aware of the continuous learning that they should be engaged into if they want to survive in this rapidly changing world. He also made students cognizant of the 4th industrial revolution which will be driven by technology like artificial intelligence, the power of IoT and many more. The program ended with a vote of thanks by Chairperson PGP Mr. Vinod Madhvan who also made the gathering aware about the diversity present in the campus which includes students from all the 29 states of India, all from a diverse background and culture.     ------------------- About the Author: Deepak Pandey "First-year MBA student at IFMR."
