I would like to start my experience so far with the most important learning from my induction week. We came as individuals here thinking to achieve high in life. But what these initial few days taught us is that you are not an individual here, you are a batch. Seniors inculcated this feeling of you being a batch is something which I feel would not have ever been there. From seeing that everyone is awake for sessions and classes to keeping extra food for fellow mates when the mess is about to close.
Diversity of the batch is one thing which is so astounding. We all come from different backgrounds, experience and culture. There is a lot to learn from each other’s experiences. When we start sharing some of our most amazing experiences of life, we don’t realize when the sun sets in and shows up again. But, here we focus on gaining as much learning as possible from every small activity or task.
We all have heard a lot about the hectic schedule of any B-school, however, the truth is you adapt so well and so fast that you don’t even feel tired even if you are awake for 20-22 hours at stretch. Because everyone is around at some point of time and it makes a conducive environment which facilitates the efficiency of every individual. Hence, the point we grow as a batch.
Life is fast here. On some days you would feel like that you are just meeting deadlines and you don’t have time to think what next is to be done. You just prioritize your stuff and start doing it. Here, given the competition, you have no time to waste i.e. in sleeping.
Discipline is something unique which I find here at MDI. Adherence to certain rules and regulations and monitoring of every rule is something which keeps the school going. Policies are designed in such a way that if you follow them regularly and without lax, it would benefit you the most.
Guidance from seniors and professors is like water. Widely available but scarcely precious. Everyone is supportive and give you more than you ask for. Professors beautifully relate to the real-life examples about the concepts which we, so far, had studied only in theory.
Given my long-term goals, I would like to work with Idea Cellular. I have heard a lot about its professional and ethical work culture and feel that it would be a great opportunity for me to grow as a professional and as an individual. Also I am inclined towards telecommunications, so it would help me in pursuing my interest too and given the recent merger plans with Vodafone it would give an exciting learning experience.
