As a business student, I have always wondered about how these big firms keep up and survive all those years of the good or worst economy of the world. Among all these big firms I had encountered a peculiar company (Aditya Birla group) which has always stood there like a big giant protecting its people. So I Google a few articles about this company and it got me excited, not because of how big they are but because they have 150+ years of existence as a company and they had never stopped investing to learning and development of its employees during good or bad times which has always been their core strength on developing the best. The L&D in this company is structured so well that it actually enhances the learning agility of its employees. This company is also a risk taker, and they do so by expanding into different business units and models. They had both the courage and conviction in doing so that it grew over time globally and is now a big conglomerate worth billions of dollars.
Another unique thing that I found about this company is its capability to attract and retain good talents. Some of the things that they did to retain and attract are in the 1st place they have never stopped investing in its employees, and their investment is unparalleled to other organizations secondly they ensure that there is Inclusion in the organization. They make sure that each and every diverse group is welcome. Also, they allow their employees to experiment on different types of business, giving them the excitement of working with them. The exposure they offer is also unparalleled as compared to other firms with strong policies for women giving them a significant offer that matter to the women.
So during my internship, I had worked as a co-entrepreneur for a firm that invested in SME. For the 1st month, I work with a candy manufacturing firm and another month with an organic bio fertilizers manufacturing company making marketing strategies and sales, and I thought I should try something like what Aditya Birla Group has done. But as a sales and marketing strategies intern, I did so with a slight shift of the lens, and the results were great. I was able to generate a new lead for sales. We were providing excite for the end consumer in buying our product by investing in them and having a policy that matters to them like giving a free consultancy service.
I was lucky enough to have read some of these articles before my internship. So during my two months of work experience working with 2 different firms, from a totally different sector or business line, I got to understand the types of strategy that these two companies use. Also, this helps me to adapt to any culture faster. The next time I go into a field to work, I shall be more resilience and be prepared to understand the consumer and the employees as this is an integral part of a business.
