The difference between
ordinary and
extraordinary is that little ‘
extra’. And my journey till now in
Department of Management Studies, IIT Roorkee has made me believe that anyone can become extraordinary in the right atmosphere with hard work. I still remember the exact moment when I got to know that I had converted
DoMS IIT Roorkee, after CAT 2016. It was a dream come true to get accepted to one of the most prestigious institutes in the country. It was the start of a completely new journey for me.
I had completed my schooling and engineering both from Kolkata, so I was pretty excited to step out of my comfort zone and delve into my MBA journey with full throttle. The first few days here made me realize that my world had changed completely. I was surrounded by so many talented people from all over the country. Being a fresher, I felt like a sponge having the opportunity to soak up new knowledge from every source possible. The exceptional faculty, classmates who had work experiences in all possible fields imaginable, the world-class infrastructure and the huge lush green campus made me realize that I had a once in a lifetime opportunity to transform myself into someone
extraordinary.
Thus, began my journey to push myself to try and learn as much as possible with each passing day. Being in a
B-school within an
E-school was another huge advantage; you get to connect not only with your classmates but with people from various other fields as well. The interactive and stimulating classes, case study discussions, surprise quizzes, guest lectures by eminent people from the corporate world and knowledge sharing sessions by the students themselves helps each one of us here at
DoMS, to learn from our peers and to contribute as well.
Everything here at
DoMS, IIT Roorkee is student driven. We have various clubs and committees here which are responsible for the smooth functioning of all the activities of the department. Every new student has to undergo rigorous rounds of group discussions and interviews to make it to the club or committee of their choice. Here, nobody is judged on their previous tags but by their abilities to perform well in a certain role. Finally, after consecutive sleepless nights of back to back interviews, I was able to burst the age-old myth that freshers cannot get into the
Placement Committee.
It’s been three months since
DoMS entrusted me with such an important role. It’s been a roller coaster ride till now. It’s a huge responsibility to shoulder and since then I have been learning new things about the corporate world first hand, every day. Working along with six other members has drastically improved my ability to work better in a team, speaking directly to top-level CEOs and HRs on a daily basis was an opportunity I never dreamt of having. Working hard for an important cause, gaining new skills, meeting new people are all the opportunities and the responsibilities of this committee, which I feel privileged to be a part of.
Thus,
DoMS IIT Roorkee gives you the platform to transform yourself, only if you have the belief to do so.
