At some point in life, all of us would have thought of giving up what we are doing to “start a business”. Imagine that you are in the midst of the chai-sutta-snacks routine outside your office. Out of the million little conversations that happen, you surely must have had this one. “Yaar, this chaiwaalah must earn more than us. I wish I could open something like this outside an office. It will definitely pay better than this job.” (Please Note: The conversation has been heavily cleaned up, for the sake of political correctness).
The truth is this: Many of us nurture this tiny, little dream of doing something worthwhile. A dream, where we are our own boss. So many of these dreams just fizzle out. Once you are back to the office, you forget that you ever had a hint of an idea.
So, what will an Entrepreneurship summit do for me?
1. INSPIRE YOU: An E Summit typically has a keynote address, where a speaker will address the audience by sharing their story and insights. It is inspirational to see someone who followed what they believed in. It may just be the catalyst to bring about the courage to follow your dreams
2. GET THE COGS OF YOUR BRAIN WORKING: So you have never had an idea in your life? But when you hear people talking passionately about their ideas in a B-Plan competition, it may just be the dose you need to start thinking
3. CONNECT: It can be as simple as striking up a conversation with the person sitting next to you. You may just have similar ideas to start a venture. Or you can meet someone who will have exactly the skill set to get your business going. Who knows? The possibilities are endless
4. GAIN KNOWLEDGE: A panel discussion will give a whole new dimension about a topic. When veterans and experienced people discuss something important, it is always worth listening to.
5. A REALITY CHECK: Not everything is hunky-dory when you need to start a business. There will be pitfalls, unforeseen problems, failures and what not. You can hear start-ups talk about all their experiences- the good, bad and the ugly.
All in all, an event dedicated to entrepreneurship is a learning experience. All the management concepts you have learnt, will come into play when you want to venture into something new. You get to experience everything - the successes, the failures, the perseverance, the hard work and the sheer passion that goes into creating something of your own.
