After going through the rigorous process, I got into KJ Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research (SIMSR). After a few days, I came to know that an MBA is all about the grind. The lectures, assignments, case studies, research papers, live projects, internship hiring processes, committee work, and many more are followed by the End-term examination.
I faced difficulties during the 1st-trimester examination, as I had attempted the last examination 4 years ago. It was difficult for me to cope with those heavy books the night before my exams. Here, you need to push yourself more than ever. The crux here is, even if you don’t like reading, induce the habit of reading gradually and it will help. Also, there are a lot of things to learn from a lot of people as you move along your course. So, don’t be stubborn and have the will to learn as a lot of people have a lot of talent. The one big challenge is to switch from living a comfortable life to always being in a position of demanding situations in order to test yourself continuously throughout the course.
Having worked before has its perks as one knows how to handle the pressure and work under a time constraint, which becomes vital for an MBA student to strike a delicate balance between various activities, lectures and assignments. The subjects start making more sense as you link them to what you have previously experienced during the time in industry, helping you to not only get the knowledge of the subject but also learn the application.
The most important thing about the first year in the MBA is the Summer internship and Live projects where previous work experience is an added advantage as you know how the industry operates. This experience enables one to draw more opportunities for further growth. Internship helps you to understand the specialization you may select, it is the best way to learn and master professional skills. Internship helps you to build a Professional Network which can be an invaluable resource. Having worked in the industry, you will be able to make the best use of all these available resources.
With prior work experience you will surely have an upper hand but make sure to work hard enough to fulfill your purpose of doing an MBA.
