It would be an utter lie to state “I have always wanted to do an MBA”. My experiences in life paved way for me to choose a b-school education. When it came to MBA, IIM was the obvious choice for me. But an article on IIFT and the prestigious International Business program it offered hooked me to it. When I converted IIFT Delhi, I chose it in spite of having some top IIM converts. During my IIM interviews, I had met a lot of people with ‘IIT’ tags and was expecting nothing less here at IIFT too. All my expectations went for a toss in the first week itself.
IIFT has a wide variety of clubs, cells and committees operating under it. Each one had an introductory session with the new batch to elaborate on their activities and functions. During these interactive sessions, there were questions prepared for us. I found myself admiring my fellow batchmates for their in-depth knowledge on various topics. Although the majority of the batch were engineers, like every top b-school, the profile diversity was more prominent. We had entrepreneurs, dancers, singers, national level sportsmen and what not! This is actually giving each person at IIFT an opportunity to get exposed to diverse personalities within the batch and to learn from them. Rather than having “tags” from their undergraduate education, these people were having their own identities and fields of interest. I had some presumptions about MBA life in top b-schools. I had heard stories of intense competition among peers, back-stabbing to grab major opportunities and many such things. But, to my surprise, I found my batchmates very amiable and cooperative. Before I knew it, they were waking me up, helping me with food choices and every time I looked in my phone I was seeing some info or the other posted in our WhatsApp group. One of the best things about IIFT is the “buddy” system we have. In accordance with this, each person is effectively assigned with three seniors, with whom he can clear any doubts or can seek assistance in any matter. I found this system extremely helpful and fun. It paces up the bonding between seniors and juniors. All the misconceptions regarding various aspects of MBA life are mitigated in an efficient manner through this system. The amount of effort each person in senior batch takes to help out their juniors is appreciable. In a nutshell, IIFT is transforming into a second home for me.

ABG Company:
Aditya Birla Capital Limited (ABCL) is one of the top NBFCs in our country. In the current scenario of Non-Performing Assets (NPAs) and the recapitalization strategies to recover our Public-Sector Banks, NBFCs play a significant role in supporting our economy by bridging the gap by providing the necessary financial assistance. I think the experience that I will earn by working at ABCL would give me a better idea of the functioning and importance of NBFCs and also would equip me with the basic mandates needed for a career in finance.
