Everything the Light touches is our Kingdom”. Yes, the ABG group predates the famous lion king musical, but one could not defer in accepting that the ideals they follow have bought them where they are today and everything the light touches is most definitely their kingdom. The ABG group is a multi-ethnic and multidimensional group operating in 36 countries across 6 continents, apart from the one where even light finds it difficult to find its way. The ABG group is tangible, yet so intangible in our everyday lives that one would be baffled by its omnipresence in his constantly changing immediate surrounding. From birth to death, morning to evening, breakfast to dinner, there isn’t an aspect where ABG does not touch our life. Even the “maa ke haath ka khana” we so proudly carried to school was wrapped in aluminium foil, again mostly made by ABG, being the biggest Aluminium producer of our planet. “Reaching the Sun” thereby truly encompasses the ideals and mission of the ABG group to extend their influence beyond what a normal human could not even dream of. It has all probably something to do with the groups core ideals including, integrity, commitment, speed, seamlessness and passion. The Indian hinterlands are increasingly enmeshed in the wrap and weft of the fabric of growth; being an ambitious developing nation, connectivity becomes paramount in achieving our dreams. Having more than 400 cities in the making, from highways to homes to building a new India, there is an unflagging demand for cement. Being the largest cement manufacturer in the world, who if not ABG has played an instrumental role in shaping new India. “Ye hai Mumbai Meri Jaan”, echoes how sentimental we our towards our beloved Mumbai. The Iconic Bandra- Worli sea link plays a part in making Mumbai, Mumbai and ABG as usual has again played a vital role in its construction. ABG has been a constant harbinger of modern India, not only connecting people through construction but also through their mobile network. Being India’s largest and the worlds second largest telecom operator, ABG has been bringing people closer and connected. The “education for all” Idea campaign was not a marketing stunt but a clear reflection of the innovation culture inculcated in the ABG group. ABG has been a part of the minute intricacies of millions. Every 2nd “can” being a ABG produce, every refreshing drink/beverage conglomerate and their billion consumers have ABG to thank, not just for the product, but also for the fact that ABG is the biggest Aluminium can recycler and is doing its part in making our future a sustainable one. The magnitude of operations is such that the annual recycled waste can encircle the earth 100 billion times, end to end. ABG has been building the future for many through their financial services network. Churning out 3 garments/second, they have a product for all. I’ve always been a fat kid and could almost never find my size. It has always been Pantaloons which had something for me. Being an automobile enthusiast, I’ve always been attracted to everything moving on wheels. It is astounding for me that ABG had a part there as well, being the largest carbon black producer, an important element in tyre manufacturing, the basic load bearer of my beloved vehicles. Part B :- Rise Through Alternate Thinking Fresh out of college, I was fortunate enough to have worked at a post of leadership, taking on the role of a Area Manager for after sales service of a major car manufacturer of our country. Though I was thorough with my automobile concepts, my managerial skills initially were questionable. My first visit to a dealership was a nightmare as I had to lead a team, the average age of which was twice my age. I had to earn their respect and only then would my suggestions/thoughts have any acceptance in their ecosystem. Being in Punjab and having a fair idea of the general psyche of the demography, it was clear to me that only through people skills and earned respect could I demand any value at the channel network. Thereby, I took to myself to first work on the infrastructure and remuneration for dealer manpower. One of my first projects at the dealership included completely revamping the host of facilities available for the employees at the dealer. It included renovating the toilets, introduction of a better meal plan, reworking the salary and incentive structures and most importantly getting outstanding incentives/benefits if any, of all manpower cleared. Convincing the dealer principle to invest was difficult, but I somehow got him to agree. The results were phenomenal. I had my first class in management even before I realised it, “a motivated workforce will work more efficiently and lead to higher profits”. Soon after, my ideas and values were warmly welcomed at the dealer and getting tasks done became a breeze.
