After having spent an year in b-school and seeing our seniors pass out, all of us do have a fair idea of what to expect in the second year, or atleast that is what we like to believe. Here is my perspective on how I see the second year unfolding. Following is what I expect:   Placements: It is the year of final placements. Unarguably the single most important thing in our MBA life. It is the moment that shapes your professional career. Because of the fortune spent to study the course, it will be tense, it will be dramatic, it will be brutal, it will be blissful and it will take its toll.   Trips: All will not be so bad. We will get (or somehow manage) more time and go on a lot more trips. There are more long holidays and we realise that this is the last year of our college life so we will go and create those lifelong memories for facebook and Picasa.   Politics: Second year wield more power in the hands of the same students and with power comes politics. There is cut throat competition in b-schools and it’s each man for himself. For you to win others have to lose.   New Crushes: As we move into second year, a new batch will come in for the first year. With a new batch comes new expectations. The single clan of the second year wait to critically analyse the incoming batch. New crushes are bound to happen and both of the sexes should get some eye candy for sure.   New Couples: The New Year promises to bring a new set of relationships in campus. Old friends take the plunge. Old acquaintances found new interests in each other, some just meet new people and others want an affair before leaving college.   Competitions: This year would be full of corporate competitions. Almost all the big corporates have some competition with big prize money and PPIs or PPOs on offer. So we face a tough challenge in the coming year trying to crack one of them.   Lots of Classes: This is an year when classes would come thick and fast. Lots of courses are to be attended and classes will run till late evenings. So lot of busy days could be expected ahead.   Port Visit: (Relevant only for IIFT) Probably the most awaited event of the year. Everybody has already started planning on the city of Port Visit. It is a moment to go out together with friends and have a trip along with practical learning.   Parties: Last but not the least, we are looking forward to a lot of parties in the second year. There would be parties for PPO, parties as and when people get placed, an official farewell and lots of mini farewell parties.   The actual year might not turn out to be the same as expected but I would like to believe it would surely be full of learnings and unforgettable memories.   If you have liked my blogs, do a small favor by liking this post on facebook. (Yes another thing I learnt, all contests are judged by facebook likes.)   Ishan Arora is a student from IIFT who has had a very regular life- an engineer, an IT professional and now an MBA student. He is very passionate about writing and writes on a personal blog A Vent in the Delirium. He is also in love with music and plays on internet radio in his college.   For regular updates, follow IIFT FB Page and InsideIIM Page You can Follow me on InsideIIM at Ishan@insideiim.com
