Being an engineer and pursuing an MBA has its own set of complications and issues.
Engineers are people who design, develop, and test products to fulfill functional goals. Managers are in charge of completing activities efficiently with and via other individuals, as well as achieving the company's goals through management tasks. Engineers and Managers have one thing in common: they both strive for and achieve their objectives. This factor contributes to the compatibility of Engineering and Management. An Engineer's viewpoint differs greatly from that of a Manager. An Engineer sees things primarily from a technical standpoint, but a Manager should have a broad vision of the organization. Combining these two perspectives allows us to see a larger picture. This is the first thing we learn as Engineers in management schools. I learned a lot when I worked on projects with students from other streams and areas who had extensive industry experience. We learn how various people think and respond in the same circumstance. Depending on their approach and ability to adapt, each Engineer has their unique set of experiences. Accountancy is one of those courses that open up a whole new world for engineers. Another lesson we learn in MBA is how to adjust to this new reality.
As an engineer, I know that learning new areas like accounting may be difficult since I have to compete with my peers who have far more expertise than me in this area. So, before the commencement of the classes, I took certain Udemy courses that truly enabled me to be a part of this race. When I first looked through the topics we had for our semester, I never expected to have Finance as one of my possibilities for specialization because, as a B.Tech graduate specializing in Electronics and Communication, I have no expertise in it. I enjoy learning new things and getting a sense of how they feel. Learning the topic from start was difficult due to our tight schedules, but I have liked the process of learning and applying what I have learned in real life.
At Engineering, we will all be surrounded by like-minded students with no business experience, but this is not the case in Management Schools. We will have people from diverse fields with varying levels of expertise, which will provide us with new perspectives. When I teamed up for a case study competition, this mix of students from all backgrounds and perspectives helped me learn many things. There were several variants and approaches to an issue, but we all had to integrate our thoughts and come up with a single effective and efficient solution that was more appropriate. This is a crucial talent for a manager to have: listening to all of his or her team members' approaches and coming up with a solution that is best suited to and agreed upon by everyone.
Along with the disadvantages, there are certain advantages of being an engineering graduate. We will be able to look at management challenges from a technological standpoint as well. Technical View may be used to any circumstance. We were once given a study topic and instructed to trace the research design; the paper was on Semi-Conductors, which was one of my core courses in college. With my understanding of Semi-Conductors, I was able to provide a solution and add some technical perception to the solution. An Engineer may not have studied management, but he or she has dealt with a variety of circumstances in the past. This expertise, which includes managing a large number of students, aids in competing in extracurricular activities. As a National Tennis Player, dealing with stressful situations is part of the profession. Along with this, I have 4 years of experience leading and managing a group of students. The major benefit of being an engineer is the four-year length. We learned a lot during that period, which helped us thrive in extracurricular activities in MBA. Personally, these experiences aided me in becoming a member of the Placement Committee, Consultation Club, and Class Representative.

IIT (ISM) Dhanbad is a prominent technical institute with a distinct approach to teaching MBA students than IIMs. As a technical school, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad teaches students that there is not just one management vision or approach to a solution, but also how to see a solution in a practical and technical sense. The program incorporates both practical and technical approaches to management ideas. This benefits not only engineers but all students in gaining this perspective, which they may then use in the actual world. Even though our journey of MBA at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad has just completed a month, it was an exciting and enjoyable learning experience, and I am confident that we will have more opportunities to learn in the future. I am confident that IIT (ISM) Dhanbad would shape us into excellent managers who are experts in their respective fields.
