It has been just over a month that I have been a Mandevian, and I have already gathered some memorable moments. My unique experience in Management Development Institute was participating in the first distance race in my life, which was the 6k race organised by the Samaritans club, which had organised it to raise money for charity. I had been keeping myself at reasonably good fitness level and had tried to exercise whenever I got some free time in the hectic first few weeks of the first trimester of the PGPM program. Thus, even though I suffered from a lack of practice or experience in the field, my healthy eating and exercise habits in contrast to the majority of my batchmates who had not tried to follow a regime the same as me, I was confident.
Due to the untimely monsoon rains, after several days of postponing the race was announced late in the afternoon. I had already had a 30 minute football match and a basketball team practice earlier in the day, so my legs were a little tired before the race. As the race was scheduled at 10 30 in the evening, I decided to skip dinner. Additionally, I ate a chocolate an hour before the race, besides hydrating myself appropriately throughout the day as soon as I got to know about the race.
My start to the race was not ideal due to there being a large crowd at the starting line, in which I was at the back. At the start, due to the confusion regarding the direction in which the race was supposed to run, I found myself among the last. Trying to navigate the crowd messes up with the breathing and the running rhythm, which is crucial at the start of such races. However, I did find it after half a kilometre, and got into my groove.
Passing by my on batch mates and trying to come up with something witty to buck them up or to get their attention to be keeping up with my running were some of the small pleasures I occupied myself with during the duration of the race. In the last kilometre, I had planned to pick up the pace and finish strong, but my already tired legs felt like they were made of lead, and I had a difficult time in speeding up. However, I was able to finish strong and came at a respectable 16
th place in the overall rankings. This experience has piqued my interest in long distance running, although this race was not exactly that. The rhythmic pace and the tranquillity coupled with physical fitness is a potent combination. I am sure I will like to explore my limits in the field in the future.
The ABG Company I want to join:
The Group’s arm involved into financial services, namely, Aditya Birla Capital, is the organisation I want to join. More specifically, the asset management functions of the group really excite me as I have a keen interest I finance and have done research by myself on the subject. It completely aligns with my own career goal and I feel that with my motivation and eagerness to learn, I would be able to contribute to the organisation on a long term basis, as much s I would receive from it.
