One of the most important instances in my life until today, would be when I cofounded a mental health committee at my undergrad level. With the kind of stigma and awkwardness that our society has with regard to mental health is quite disoriented with the kind of image we portray as a country on a world stage. I always felt things about mental health should be taught right from childhood but unfortunately, isn’t not the reality. In summer of 2014, I put across a proposal to start a mental health committee to handle the mental issues of individuals at my college. As expected, we faced with a lot of arguments against the students run mental health committee. The management was completely against the idea of a mental health club. I believe I was very adamant about a few things on this campaign. It meant I was alone through all this. As a student at that very same college, it wasn’t seeing one of very own fall pray to depression. It isn’t easy but the incident taught me that we need to be greater than we suffer. We came up with our proposals to the management, and after several data collations we were able to establish strong facts as to why addressing this issue was of peak importance. We were able to establish the first ever mental health committee at a professional college in Bangalore, against all odds. The instance thought me that it is very important to feel and respect others feelings and its critical that we are there for people who we need.
