For all the sports enthusiasts who want to create a career in Sports Management, now we have an Executive Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Management being offered by IIM Rohtak. The institute launched this program on 4th September, 2018 becoming the first of all IIMs to undertake such an initiative. Also, Haryana being a state well known for its immense investments in sports activities combined with the campus of IIM Rohtak being at the centre of the state can be a very brilliant leveraging point for all the EPGDM candidates in this domain.
Now let me dig a little deeper and give you an insight of “Why is there an increasing requirement of management in sports?”. We all are aware of the continuous shifts in sports interest of an average Indian common man and thus, it becomes of prime importance to advertise and market our sports in a more efficient way. But this comes along with the risk of corruption, especially in national and international tournaments. Therefore, as a sports manager, one should be able to handle the publicity and also minimize the risk of degradation in the spirit of sports. Furthermore, one should also tackle and avoid the chances of an accident during a sports event. Thus, we can say that sports management requires thinking from all the perspectives, gauging all the possible scenarios and strategizing for or against that and with the increasing importance and interest of the public in sports, it is impossible to simply ignore these necessities. Getting ahead in sports will contribute majorly in terms of the growth of the nation and it is high time that the government and all the major institutes of the country took initiatives in this direction. Hence, the field of management in sports is the new requirement whose intensity is only going to increase.
