If anyone asks me a question that which are the best days of your life? I would instantaneously reply “my College days.” College life is one of the best things that can happen to any person. As a student of IIM Rohtak, I too have experienced this life. Getting into an IIM was a huge thing, and the excitement level of meeting new people in a new environment was very high.
I can recall an experience from the first lecture here at IIM Rohtak. The day before the lecture I was expecting that the first would be an introduction of the subject, but in the evening we received a mail from the professor instructing us to come prepared with the case analysis. This was something new because whole my life I was never told to come prepared in the class and that too in the very first lecture. I had a minimal idea about how to go ahead with case analysis. So, after doing a little analysis in the night, I went to the class next day. I had a minimal idea about how these case discussions take place.
So, I was sitting in the lecture hall at 8:45 AM clueless about what is going to happen in the lecture. Then, the professor entered the class with a big smile and without wasting a minute he asked a student “Who are you?”. As expected the student started introducing himself thinking that the professor was asking for an introduction. He asked the same thing to 5-6 people including me. All of us replied to him in our name. But one voice came from the back naming the protagonist of the case. This was the answer expected by our professor. He told the class that to understand better a problem or a situation one has to put his feet in the shoes of the protagonist. This was my first learning at IIM Rohtak.
In my earlier experiences I was a student in classrooms learning only from the teacher or professor, but here at IIM Rohtak, I was a participant learning from my peers as well as the professor. The case discussion followed the entire duration of the class and as the clock hit 10:00 AM the professor went outside the clock teaching me one more thing – Importance of time in life.
I would love to work for Aditya Birla Fashion, and Retail Ltd, where I can apply my marketing knowledge in practical life and be a part of the company when it is facing stiff competition from online stores and in the process can meet great people and learn from them.
