When I saw the first episode of Game of Thrones (GOT) in 2011, I did not have any kind of expectation from the show. But after watching the first season, I was amazed to see how each episode of GOT was similar to a Lord of the rings or Hobbit movie or any movie of the same genre and with a similar level of detail and well-shot scenes. With an amazing screenplay and outstanding acting, it was on its way to becoming one of the greatest series of all time and an IMDB rating of 9.5.
The characters and writers made sure that Game of Thrones was much more than just about an Iron throne and the seven kingdoms. A series based on Ambitions, politics, war, love, magic, and dragons, it did not only create a loyal fan base but also an enormous repository of popular theories. Whenever I asked GOT fans about their favorite characters and the reason they like them, the same few names made it to the list because of their outstanding performance and the role in the show.
The Fate of Tyrion Lannister
He is the shortest 49-year-old actor in GOT and no one would have had the slightest idea of what his character would turn out to be. Peter Dinklage has truly portrayed his anger of being a dwarf in the show even though he always believed in the fact that
the world does not need another angry dwarf. His character matured from being just a notorious Lannister to the advisor of Daenerys Targaryen and we all loved it.
The success that he achieved with the show, has given a new perspective to how people look at dwarfs. They invite and listen to him speak as to how he worked at a Data Entry Job for six years hating it daily when he actually wanted to be an Actor and build a theatre company. At the age of 29, he decided to stick to acting no matter what happens next. He was not afraid of change and accepted who he actually was.
Don’t search for defining moments because they will never come. The moments that define have already happened, and they will happen again. — Peter Dinklage
Fire and Drogon
In GOT, Dragons have been portrayed as large magical creatures with skin thick like dried lava covered in scales and spines running down their backs from head to tail. The last surviving dragons were possessed by
House Targaryen who used them to conquer the seven kingdoms of Westeros. They were considered to be extinct by all characters in the show until they saw one themselves.
When Dragon eggs were given to Daenerys Targaryen as a present for her wedding with Khal Drogo, I never thought that one day the eggs will hatch. At that time, I believed, like most people, that they were given to her because they were precious and beautiful to look at. But when the three eggs hatched and one of the dragons started growing quickly, it gave a whole new perspective to the show and made Daenerys Targaryen the only living mother of dragons. What was thought to be extinct became a point of fear for all other houses in the show. As the mother of dragons, Daenerys understood that the dragon is not a slave and it has its own will as compared to other animals. They are powerful and intelligent creatures breathing fire who have the power to burn down anything.
Whenever I Saw Drogon on the show burning a city or an army, I felt good about it because inside I knew it was the right thing to do. The feeling is similar to when we are independent and the world is bowing down to our passion and talent. They have the power to burn down any type of criticism with the fire within it.
We all have a Drogon within us, we just need to recognize and tame it
Bastards of Westeros
GOT is about nine families who wage war against each other to gain control of Westeros. The show would have been only about Families and their wars if it was not for the Bastards who made or will make all the difference.
Gendry, Ramsay Bolton, Bastards of Nights watch, Jon Snow— They had all one thing in common. They had the hunger to gain prestige and equality. With no support from family and being humiliated whenever possible, their only way to gain respect was to become best at what they do.
Battle of Bastards is one of the most famous episodes of GOT which received immense critical acclaim where Jon Snow decides to battle Ramsay Bolton for Winterfell. The reason I liked this episode was even though both Ramsay and Jon were bastards, both were highly skilled and smart. People chose to be part of their army not because they had a prestigious family name, but the needed skills and leadership qualities.
Each one of us comes alone in this world. If we want to leave a mark on people and the world, only our actions will define us and nothing else will matter in the end.
The Character of Samwell Tarly
Samwell Tarly is the son of Lord Randyll Tarly, one of the most skilled military commanders in Westeros. His father hoped for a son who would carry on his legacy and lead House Tarly into battle. But Sam had no interest in violence and had to unwillingly join the nights watch to save himself from his father.
Even Though he is overweight and neither the bravest nor the most skilled of warriors, he is a risk taker, a reader, smart and knows what he is good at. His knowledge, courage and patience saved the life of Jorah Mormont and Gilly and her baby making it one of the biggest contributions on the show. No wonder his knowledge will help in defeating the Night King.
In GOT, Bravery may be about fighting with your enemies, but if you are being smart to avoid the war, bravery may not be of so much worth.
The Night King
The white walkers have been the
disguised highlight of the show since the first episode. They are similar to zombies as seen earlier in different shows but in GOT they are driven by magical power and not by a virus and can be killed only by Fire, Dragon glass or Valyrian Steel.
When the Night king appeared in season 4 for the first time, changing a human baby into one of his own, it meant that white walkers had a leader with magical powers. The attack on hard home in season 5 was unexpected but strategic. He added more people in the Army of dead and he showed his power and victory by raising his hands and challenging Jon snow.
I was very sad after watching the episode when The Night King ruthlessly kills Viserion with the magical ice sword. Well, every fan must have hated him but seen from another perspective, it was
opportunistic of him to kill a dragon so that it can be used to break the ice wall. Night king has always been shown as a
being with a plan and determined towards the main objective and that has even frightened Jon Snow.
The Night King is the ultimate villain of the show and it ultimately ended with the sweet music of fire and ice.
