Transformation from a student to an intern was a roller-coaster ride. It all started in the first year, when the summer internship placement commenced. I was scared og group discussion process, so in order to overcome that fear, I started reading newspaper regularly. Day zero started and companies began their process, I was rejected in the first process I sat, I was dejected. After the rejection, I introspected about what I need to change in myself, I started practicing for interview with my friends, brushed up my technical knowledge.
After sitting through a number of companies, I got a placement in KPMG India Pvt. Ltd as an intern in Deal advisory department. I was really excited to join KPMG and start my new journey.
On my first day of my internship, I was allotted a company mentor, who guided me throughout my internship. There were total of ten interns in my team. First day we had a full day training on firm policies, various compliances and company rules. All of us were given welcome kits and at the end of the day we were provided with laptops. Next day was my first day on the floor, my mentor had a meeting with me, asked my expectations out of the two month of internship and explained me how things will work here for me. I was then introduced to the whole team, the team welcomed me warmly and made me feel at home.
During my internship I worked on a variety of tasks like buy side consultancy, sell side consultancy, creating information memorandums, creating client pitch in report, teaser reports. My basic work was to search targets for the client with which it can have associating with in form of a JV or a merger. I also had an opportunity to be part of a client meeting in which the buyer and seller negotiated on the value of the company.
During mu internship, I was a part of both inbound and outbound transactions. I assisted in the valuation of two companies and learned financial modeling. My internship provided me ample opportunities to learn and grow.My mentor and company always motivated me to work, they showed confidence in me and provided me platform to prove my worth to them, they involved me in important projects. I made good relations with my team members during my internship.
My mentor provided me constant support and guidance throughout, I learned the importance of building relationships and networking. My experience was a learning and enriching one. I hope to work again at KPMG in future.
