Shreyas is currently a student at TISS Mumbai and is pursuing his summer internship at OYO. Two of his passions are food and sports. When he travels, the first thing he wants to know is where and what he is going to be eating. He likes experimenting in the kitchen whenever he gets an opportunity. He has played league cricket in the TNCA league for seven seasons and loves playing football as well (although he’s not very good at it). Shreyas enjoys watching and playing most sports and he’s a supporter of Liverpool FC.
Q. Tell us a little about yourself.
I am Shreyas Bhat. I am doing my Master’s in Organisation Development, Change and Leadership (ODCL) from TISS, Mumbai. I am from Chennai. I graduated from RKM Vivekananda College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. I love quizzing and was a regional runner up at Tata Crucible in 2011. I started working in 2012 which didn’t give me enough time to participate regularly however I started quizzing again last year after joining TISS and was a regional finalist at Tata Crucible 2019.
Q. You have more than 4 years of work experience. Can you tell us where you have worked and what kind of roles they were?
My first job was as a Sports Journalist at The Times of India. I then went on to work as a Copywriter and Project Manager with a Chennai-based ad agency where my clients included IMG Reliance and TAFE. I also spent some time handling creative content for the Amtex group of companies.
Q. How did ODCL come into picture?
I was looking to do my Master’s either in India or abroad when I came across this new programme (ODCL) at TISS. The uniqueness of the programme and its scope as well as the opportunity to study at an incredible institution like TISS (you have to experience it to truly understand what I mean) ensured I had no second thoughts about taking this path.
Q. A lot of people don’t have any idea about HR in general or it’s various specializations. Any advice for them? Why should they choose in career in Human Resources?
I think you have to find your purpose. For me it was my own experiences as an employee which made me believe I could do something good in this space. I believe HRM and OD in particular can be applied universally to create a positive impact.
