Getting a position on the top is not challenging but, maintaining it is, and Aditya Birla Group has managed to ace that challenge. Also, being the king of one industry is challenging enough, but ABG has not failed to surprise us even concerning that.
As a kid, I loved visiting my grandmother’s house located near Hyderabad for vacations. One such vacation I visited the Birla Planetarium and cherished the experience, and I guess that was the start of my journey with the Aditya Birla Group family. As a young girl, I dreamt of becoming an engineer which I did become, but Birla Institute of Technology Pilani was my dream college. That’s how I moved a step closer to the Birla family. In a fast-moving world today we can’t even dare to imagine our life without a cellular network, and yet again the Birlas have been the best in yet another domain. You name a product, and the best brand for that would be from the ABG. ABG’s Van Heusen is one of the few brands in India to have exclusive stores that provide formals for women. Making people confident and giving them the freedom that comes with dressing is done right by Peter England, Van Heusen, Pantaloons, Forever 21 and many more.
ABG has been deeply rooted in my life much more than it seems to be. It’s more than the clothes I wear or the house I live in or the cellular network I use, but much more than that. It’s about the dreams I grew up with in terms of my career, developing interest in outer space through the planetarium visit, or be it the treatment of my loved ones in the Aditya Birla hospital, ABG can’t be separated from our lives no matter how much we try.
Overcoming challenges
My father is a businessman who deals in CBSE books. During the start of a new academic year, there is a massive rush of customers wanting to buy school books and other stationery for their wards. Our shop serves about 300-350 customers daily during that period. During March 2017, to avoid the chaos among the customers, I decided to have an automated system in place that would ease the process of serving the customers and also increase efficiency. But on the “D-day” even though the system was in place, the chaos didn’t decrease. It was then when I realized that technology alone isn’t capable of handling the situation. I had to manage the crowd, which was my challenge. I asked the people to follow a system wherein their names were noted in order and an approximate time was allotted to them, this management helped the complete process and also increased customer satisfaction leading to increased sales in March 2018. The situation taught me that no matter how good technology is but with inefficient management, it’s of no good. Hence, knowledge about all aspects of business and a broader perspective is the need for any business.
