“The world today is characterised by Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity or VUCA for short – a term coined by the US military. For business managers today this manifests itself in rapid urbanisation, climate change, demographic shifts and technological advancements. Managers, therefore, would need to learn how to derive more (results) from less (resources); they would need to work in an ecosystem where there are more connected devices than people and they would have to contend with anti-globalization and increased tribalism”. This was the advice of Dr Rajeev Gowda, Rajya Sabha MP, intellectual extraordinaire and an academician par excellence. Dr Gowda was addressing a packed auditorium occupied by alumni, students and faculty of MYRA on the occasion of ‘MYRAcles Day’ – the first Alumni meet of MYRA on Saturday March 4, 2017. He shared a few anecdotes about his alma mater and the ‘old boys’ club reiterating the priceless value of Alumni in institution building.Earlier, welcoming MYRA Alumni who are currently working in reputed organizations like Nielsen, KPMG, UB Group, HCL, GMR Group, Deloitte, E&Y and Goldman Sachs, Dr. Shalini Urs – founder and chairperson mentioned that an alumni meet is an occasion for an institute and its alumni to honour and celebrate the mutual commitment towards each other. Taking those present on a journey starting with the conceptualization of MYRA till now, Dr. Urs beamed with pride as she interacted with the Alumni about the progress they have made since graduating. For the alumni, it was a momentous as well as an emotional homecoming of sorts. Counselling the freshmen and sophomores to embrace the pedagogy at MYRA, one alumnus mirrored the opinion of his cohorts when he said, “It is only when we step into the real world do we really start appreciating the value and the purpose behind the rigorous training imparted at MYRA”. Speaking on the sidelines, another wished that at least some of the distinguished international faculty were there so that she could personally thank them on the occasion. It was heart-warming to see the alumni extend a helping hand to the current batch when they asked them to reach out in case they needed help in understanding a difficult concept. It was a joyous moment for the entire MYRA family to host their distinguished alumni who are continuing to burn the flame of integrity and excellence in their respective organisations across India. The occasion was doubly special for all as MYRA was one of the recipients of the ‘Economic Times Best Education Brands 2017’ along with IIM Indore, IIT Delhi and SP Jain.
