On 29
th October 2014, Vinod Gupta School of Management, IIT Kharagpur had the privilege of hosting a guest lecture by Mr. Hirak Kayal, VP, Oracle India operations.
Mr. Kayal holds a Mechanical Engineering degree from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur and did his post-graduate studies in Business Management from Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata. Mr. Kayal joined Oracle in 2012 from Wipro Technologies where he was heading the CRM and Fusion Applications practice globally. Before this, he successfully led Wipro’s global relationship with Oracle. Prior to Wipro, Mr. Hirak had worked in PWC and IBM. Mr. Kayal has over 20 years of industry experience with more than a decade in leadership roles driving Oracle Applications business.
Mr. Kayal enlightened the students with the future trends in the technology and many new technologies which is the rock bed for many future innovations. The guest explained how if current technologies are integrated can change the world we live in. He explained how the world is moving to cloud technology and how it is shaping the future technologies. He also discussed the impact of social media in the current world and how new technologies are changing the social media. He also informed that with the smartphone boom, mobility is next big thing in the technology industry.
Taking the discussion forward, the guest spoke about the other new trending technology like big data and analytics. He also showed us the video of the products in pipeline which use the above technologies to revolutionize the customer experience.
All in all, the session turned out to be a very enriching and informative one for the students who are techno managers of future. This session was the much needed update on the new technological trends and future prospects of these technologies.
