On a fine Monday morning, a whole new chapter of our lives unfolded with us stepping inside the stunning XUB campus. The first few days were certainly an experience for us, and we use the word "experience" in the way that Randy Pausch used it in his famous Last Lecture, where he said that "Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted." The first few days of our freshman year of college was a whole bunch of not getting what we wanted, But as Randy Pausch also said about experience in his Last Lecture, "experience is often the most valuable thing you have to offer." It was a whirlwind of an experience for us, settling in and getting to know the flavor of X-life. The daily folderol defied the hackneyed theories of time. You will feel that 24 hours is less for everything you have to do in a day!! But then you will get to know a whole lot of new people during that time which is a considerable experience. That is what happened to us! We despite our frenetic schedule got time to network with people from manifold backgrounds and culture, and that is what kept us buoyant.
After we were done with our classes we had to involve ourselves in endless group meetings, project submissions, presentations, quizzes, and leadership talks and assignments. This is what XUB offers you; it helps you to become expeditious! There is hardly any day till now that has ended before 2 a.m. Night batch meets are a part of your normal day. If you are here, you will surely be accustomed to having a chat at 3 a.m. with your friends over a bowl of Maggi or a cup of coffee. In spite of these interesting perplexities that we have come across, which we believe comes with a high value attached to it; we can say that we have enjoyed every bit of what we have gone through till now. We believe these hardships are a part of the great future that lies ahead of us! We have heard one of our alumni say that the only thing tougher than getting into XUB is getting out after a stupendous two years!
We believe these stumbling blocks helped us become indefatigable and galvanized us to become a part of eastern India's biggest cultural-management fest,
"Xamboree". The whole experience seems daunting when we look back and realize that we have come a long way from being naive on our first day to become a part of the
steering committee of "Xamboree". Now fasten your seatbelts and get ready as we take you back in time and witness how Xamboree saw the light of the day. So let's start with the basics, coming up with the name of Xamboree was a herculean task in itself. We wanted a name which symbolized the grandiose of the event as well as keeping the legacy of "X" intact to it! The journey just began with this, thus ahead of us there was a list of mammoth risks and numerous hurdles. With our exams upcoming and assignments pressure, we had to work towards the event as well. It was like the three equally crucial balls that we had to juggle at the same time, while maintaining the balance so that none of which falls off! There have been many sleepless nights, feeling of acute stress; days when we have drunk like 5-6 cups of coffee to come up with consensus. Days when we wanted to have that last-ditch towards sleep.
But after all these toils we felt ardor when we were able to finalize the events, when we used to take that one small step of attainment towards our mission. We had to come up with a three-day plan which will provide a platform for everyone. The three-day affair is a melange of business games, cultural events and celeb nights. A lot of dialogues used to take place while clinching the final idea. So after all the brainstorming, we along with other diverse committees came up with the following myriad of exhilarating events
- ‘Dhwani', a platform for all those who have dedicated their hearts to the melody.
‘Runway Roll', a fashion show would follow suit and is expected to leave behind a thought-provoking impression on the audience. Along with these, there are business events, planned by Xavier School of Rural Management, Xavier School of Sustainability Management, Xavier Center of Urban Management & Governance, and Xavier School of Commerce, like
Gladiator, Proact, Urbrainiac, and Skill city, which are an amalgamation of management scenarios prevailing in the real world. It provides a real-world experience in an exciting and engaging environment. It also includes
Business Buzz, a business plan competition.
The MUN (Modern United Nations) will also commence on the first day of the fest. A
Handicraft Stall will be put up on the campus for all three days of the fest where the work of our precious Mess Staff will be on sale.
‘Sonix', a battle of bands, which will also witness the presence of prominent guitarist
"Baiju Dharmajan". XIMAHR, the students’ association of Xavier School of Human Resource Management, will be organizing a problem-solving simulation called
Case In point. A workshop will be organized for the Literature Lovers by the famous
Scribbled Stories.
Temperatures will soar high in Bhubaneswar when the
Bollywood sensation Badshah and Aastha Gill along with artists roped in from the very exclusive line-up of
VH1 & MTV Beats, will take up the stage by a storm. This 3-day extravaganza promises to be an eventful and unique experience for everyone who believes in the power of the students, through their medium of expression, are steering the winds of change. XUB gave us this opportunity to hone our skills such as planning, team-management, working under deadlines, managing time and multi-tasking. In MBA School this is called ambidextrous skills where you can balance work and personal life. This is the skill that later on helps in differentiating between dreamers and doers. We believe the first step that seemed a bit daunting one turned out to be a life-changing experience for us. We believe if you are earnest and enrapt in your approach you can overcome every hurdle in your life. Don't get petrified by the challenges you face, always learn from it and come out as an enact dreamer!
