Valentine’s Day is for people with a heart. Or for people who have lost one to someone. This year, at GIM, it was for people with
HRiday. The annual flagship HR event came right along with the Valentine’s this year, and made us all fall in love with HR. The theme for this HR symposium, this year, was
Unlearn to Unleash.
The symposium which spread across a few days, consisted of the following constituents:
- InQuizitive – An online HR quiz with a prize of worth ₹5,000/-
- Shotsight – A short-film making competition with a prize of worth ₹15,000/-
- Gyaanodaya – Opening Talk on ‘Unlearn to Unleash’ by Ester Martinez
- Yukti – Workshop on ‘Interpersonal development and team building’ by Arthur Fernandes; and on ‘Transformation of HR’ by Vandana Pragada
- Samiksha – National level HR case study competition with a cash prize of ₹50,000/-
The Opening Talk –
Gyaanodaya – was delivered by the CEO and Editor-in-Chief of
People Matters which is a leading magazine in the Human Resources domain,
Ester Martinez. She narrated her life story about how she ended up in the field of HR and how important it is to not give up, or give up at the right moment. In an interactive session wherein she answered all the queries which the students had, she wonderfully inspired the students by telling them to follow what their heart wants them to do, and learn as much as one can from experience.
Yukti took two parts and two teachers to complete. The first half was around a set of drums and by
Arthur Fernandes who is a psychologist, arts based therapist & drum circle facilitator and a co-founder & partner of
Music Matters. The participants sat around with drums in their hands as Arthur broke the barriers of hierarchy, age, gender, culture and language, and brought them all working together. Using music as the medium, Arthur explained how it is only by being wild, free and untamed can people connect with each other in the way they are supposed to.
The second half was conducted by
Vandana Pragada, an HR professional with over 14 years of proven track record of building business focused HR practices and teams. She explained the nuances which are a part of Leadership Development and also touched upon the topics of attrition and bench management in the IT industry.
Next up was the most rewarding, in a monetary manner, part of Anveshan –
Samiksha. A national level case-study competition with a cash prize of
₹50,000/- saw B-Schools from over the nation locking their horns over an opportunity to provide solutions to a live case study written in collaboration with a leading pharmaceutical MNC. From over 50 entries, team HRstrategists, from GIM, managed to take the trophy home as the winners. As the runners-up, there was a tie between team NotSoHR, from Welingkar; and team Top Shelf, from GIM.
