It was 9:50 AM. The first classroom session was about to get over. When I was sitting there, similar to what most engineers feel while attending the first session of a finance course, I too wondered if I will be able to cope up with my decision of doing majors in Finance. I looked at all my peers who had a commerce background, and who were having a great discussion with the professor and then got lost in my chain of thoughts again.
Having no idea when five sessions happened, I was sitting for the first quiz of Economics. I answered all the questions with whatever I could learn in the class and mostly with all the logical thinking, I am blessed with. As it was first ever evaluation for us, we were quite anxious about the quiz. Next day when the results came, I was taken for a shock.
The professor announced in the class, ‘The quiz was a pretty difficult one and I am glad that you all have performed well, except for some of you (chuckles).” At this very moment, my heart sank. My worst fears of failing myself were coming true. I felt like running out of the class before seeing the results. I was sure that I was going to get an ‘F’ in this subject. As I was about to break into tears, the professor announced my name as the topper of the whole batch.
Everyone was smiling at me and congratulating me and I could not even speak anything. I was just thinking why I was worrying all this time. That one moment gave me confidence not only for the time here but also, for the life ahead. That moment generated so much interest for Economics in me that I ended up studying the most about it.
