A Great And Memorable Classroom Experience At IIM Udaipur

Typically, the first year in the PGP programme comprises of all core subjects which gives an understanding of all business domains and builds skills. Here in IIM Udaipur, we also learn a subject which focuses on building spreadsheet skills in students. The subject is called Spreadsheet Modelling (SSM) and it’s taught by Prof. V. V. Rao. The reason I miss that subject is because of Prof. Rao and his teaching methodology.

Prof. Rao carries a very energetic smile on his face which not only made students comfortable, but it also encouraged them to participate in class with more enthusiasm. Rao Sir used to start his class from the previous class’s learnings and also used to ask us most common mistakes people can make in the assignments. While starting a new topic, Sir used to gauge the previous knowledge of the whole class by asking funny questions or asking one of the students to perform a certain operation.

Now here lies the real fun - whenever sir starts to explain any given topic, he explains it in a very funny and simple way which will not only imprint the concept in your mind, but it will also make you participate into the learning process. The best part of participating and guessing the answers to complex questions is getting rewarded with large chocolate, and you will get two if you guessed it correctly for the second time! When he distributed chocolates in the classrooms for the first time, we were amazed and also excited to guess the answers competing with each other like kids to get a bar of Dairy Milk which can be used later to brag!

Keeping jokes apart, Prof. V. V. Rao made sure that we not only learn SSM as an additional skillset which we will use for rest of our lifetime, but they also infused a sense of eagerness and ability to think on your feet. Both these capabilities are very important in MBA life and the corporate world after that. Because, if you are not eager to learn new things in your life, your personal development will stop and your skills may become obsolete in this dynamic era. Secondly, if you don’t think on your feet, then the fierce competition will destroy your opportunity before you can think to get a hold of it.

Last but not the least, thanks Rao sir, for giving us a very vibrant experience of learning and making SSM an unforgettable subject.

Which vertical I would like to work in ABGPL?

I love technology because it enables us to ease our lives and achieve more, going with same philosophy I would like to work with Idea Cellular Ltd. of Aditya Birla Group Ltd. Idea Cellular Ltd. Will give me the opportunity to learn and get more knowledge about the telecom and IT business, and I believe because of my prior work experience in IT/ITES and telecom domain, I can contribute to the organization in operations, new services, and application development. I would also like to work with Idea because of its nationwide presence which will provide the opportunities to solve different situations.
