Vinod Gupta School of Management, IIT Kharagpur since its inception has had very close ties with the corporate world. This time around we had gone ahead and forged a lasting relationship with the public sector. As a part of the ongoing guest lecture series ‘Pratyaksh,’ we had the privilege of hosting Mrs. Ekta Bhaskar, Expert Lead – CSR/ Commercial Project, Ministry of Water Resources and Transport, Government of India. Mrs. Ekta Bhaskar is a seasoned professional, with prior experience as the Director of MyGov, the citizen engagement portal of Government of India. She has worked in diverse fields with expertise in Corporate Social responsibility, Media Relations, and Branding. She has also been awarded as the Most Promising Indian for Idea and Innovation 2017 by promising Indian Society. Mrs. Bhaskar had an interactive way of presenting her ideas wherein, the flow of the various topics stemmed from her constant interaction with the batch of MBA aspirants in attendance. She started her lecture by asking the students about their perceptions about the public sector in general and also in contrast with the private sector. She then proceeded with breaking a lot of myths and stereotypes associated with the public sector and drew various parallels in the working of both the sectors. She also focussed on the technological advancements being implemented in the various public sector entities and how the use of various analytical tools has helped in enhancing the efficiency of their working. She also talked about her association with MyGov.in, the citizen engagement platform of the Government of India. She constantly stressed on the fact that the working of the public sector and the private sector are not poles apart as expected by most people. She also talked about her latest project, the ‘National Clean Ganga Mission’ and the various initiatives were taken up towards generating awareness in the areas surrounding the Ganga. Towards the end of the interaction, she talked about an entire plethora of topics all the while emphasizing the openness of public sector to new ideas. It ended on a very positive note with the students learning a lot about a new sector and also forming new perspectives. It was an extremely enriching session which would be cherished by all in attendance and we look forward to carrying this relationship into the future as well.
