In the month of August 2017, it was the time of onset of Placement season in my engineering college in Vadodara. Never in life had I wore formal clothes, before I was compelled to wear it for my first placement. Being in a small city having only 3-4 big malls at that time, I went to Vadodara Central, which was the first big mall built in the city. There, I saw the brand Van Heusen and I instantly fell in love with the collection. I have fuller hips and thighs with narrow shoulders, and it has always been difficult for me to find something that fits me well. Surprisingly, the shirts available here fit me perfectly. I did not even visit any other brand and selected a light pink shirt within 5 minutes of trying it. I was so happy with my shirt that I showed it to all my friends. It was the first time I purchased a formal shirt.
Now why is it so memorable for me ?
It was the Day 0 of the Placements and I was shortlisted for the first company. I was among the 3 people placed in the first company on campus and the only woman. Since then this pink shirt became my “lucky” shirt.
Fast forward to February 2018. It was my IIFT interview in World Trade Centre, Mumbai. This shirt being my lucky shirt, I wore it for my IIFT interview in spite of me having 2-3 other formal shirts now with me. And guess what, I got selected in IIFT Delhi campus.
Fast forward to Summer Placements at IIFT. Yet again I got placed the day I wore this Van Heusen pink shirt. Now this is not a coincidence ! This shirt is truly my Lucky shirt and this is the reason why ABFRL’s Van Heusen is so dear to me.
How did I overcome challenges in life so far ?
There was time of Financial distress in my family during 2016-18 due to a bad investment. It was very difficult for me as I was preparing for my MBA entrance tests, along with running a national level fest in my college and also the term work and exams of my engineering course. During this tensed situation, I wanted to help my family in monetary terms. I tried to search for part-time job at various places, but soon realized that I have to give time to my entrance preparation. So I got an idea and started selling home made snacks to friends and family. This small venture helped me make some profit and helped my family in the difficult time. I have always had this “Never say no” attitude. There is one more incident when I showcased this trait. During my board exams in 11 Science, I had decided to score a 100/100 in Mathematics. Just after the semester started, I had my right hand fractured. Being a right-handed person, I couldn’t practice now for more than a month. As I was determined to score a 100, I started writing with my left hand. I used to practice questions now with my left hand. Everyone around me was shocked when they saw me writing something with my left hand at the same speed as them. And ultimately I score a 100 that semester. I proudly tell this incident to everyone as it shows my will to achieve what I desire.
I overcome all the challenges in my life by being calm and trusting myself.
