The biggest challenge that I faced was the transition to new city for education after completing my 10th class. Till the 10th class I lived at my home with my parents in a small town. I eventually had to a move to a bigger city for further education and especially for IIT-JEE preparation. For first time in my life I was on my own and had to take care of things all by myself. At first, I was intimidated by the amount of competition that I was going to face as compared to where I came from. The academic rigour was exponentially higher as compare to 10th class with combined academic load of 12th board exams and the IIT-JEE coaching. There were a lot of other distractions like adjusting with roommates and adjusting to outside food. Given all these challenges, I initially had a lot of trouble in concentrating on studies and understanding the concepts taught in class.
To overcome these challenges, I first started by planning my daily schedule. Following a proper schedule helped me save a lot of time and study more effectively. Eventually I started to perform much better academically, I got healthier both physically and mentally. I started to collaborate with my roommates while studying and clear each other’s doubts that made grasping things much easier. This period helped me teach the value of teamwork. At the end of those two years, I felt like I improved a lot not only academically but in other aspects as well like communication and teamwork. I was able to get into a top NIT. Overcoming the challenges in those two years has made overcoming challenges in college, job and B-school much easier for me.
