2020 is definitely the most unexpected year. Everything has changed – including the examination pattern. And while it is a relief for some, some others are tensed because of the exam. There are a lot of uncertainties that you’ll have while you’re preparing for CAT. I definitely did, especially when 2-3 mock tests didn’t go well consecutively. But you have to remember in these times why did you start preparing at all. Here are some things I used to do to keep myself motivated and mentally healthy while preparing for CAT:
- Morning walks/Exercise/Meditation
I believe it’s one of the best ways to start your day. Choose any one of them and you’ll feel as if you’re starting your day with a purpose. If you’re going out for walks, I’ll recommend 30 mins per day (Don’t try this if you’re not a morning person), exercising for at least 20 mins per day and even 5 minutes of meditation can make your day. I’m not suggesting doing all of this together. It completely depends on how much time you can give your mind and body.
- Spending time with your loved ones
Well, I used to stay in a hostel but every time I finished my mock tests or felt fatigued after studying, I used to meet my friends and spend a lot of happy moments with them (prefer friends who are NOT preparing for CAT). It’s a mood booster and always works. ? If you’re preparing from home, spend time with your family because this time is never going to come back. And while you’re preparing, it’s not worth if it worries you. Learn to enjoy even the preparation time.
(PS: I went for a trip one month before my CAT exam, but don’t take that risk now)
- Reading books
It’s not only good for your VARC section preparation, but it helps you divert and calm your mind. Even if you’re not a book reader, you can still spare 10 mins or so for this practice. It truly helps a lot. I’m unable to exaggerate it enough. :D
- Positive self-talk
This one might seem illogical or philosophical to some people but if you aren’t confident about your own preparation, then no matter how well you score in your mock tests, you won’t be able to score well in the final exam. It’s okay to feel worried, that’s natural. But don’t let your self-esteem be affected by either your performance in mock tests or in the final exam. It’s just an exam, it’s not everything. If you want some more motivation, feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn.If you can’t motivate yourself, find someone who motivates you and talk to them. Support is really necessary when you feel low.
- Good food, good sleep
This is another underestimated factor. If you are sick or sleep-deprived, you can’t focus and it will definitely impact your preparation and your performance. So, keep yourself healthy. If you feel good, you usually do good.
You may feel these are not motivating factors, but when you start implementing it you’ll realize how it creates a positive impact during your preparation and even in your life overall.
Hope these tips help you. All the Best for CAT 2020!
