“We don’t remember days, we remember moments..”
- Cesare Pavese
It was the beginning of yet another term. We were back from our short corporate stint- “Summer Internship”. Everything was the same- the projector, the desks, daunting quizzes, assignments - but still, there was a difference. This marked our entry into the final year of our life as a college student, to make memories for a lifetime to cherish. The clock struck 2:30 p.m. and everybody rushed to CR-4 for the Compensation class. I also reached the class all pumped up and excited but little did I know about what was in store for me next.
The professor entered the class to be with us for the next hour and a half teaching us with his eyes wide open. Post the lecture the professor started calling out the names of the students for the attendance. Everything was going well until it was my turn to respond. The moment he called out my name, the whole class burst into a frenzy of laughter making me the laughing stock of the whole town for the next 20 sessions or even beyond. He called me ‘Shomaa’ instead of ‘Saumya’.
Instead of responding to the name call I looked at everyone laughing like a maniac. He again called my name out, this time lyrically- ‘Shomaaaaa’. That was the icing on the cake. Even I couldn’t hold on to myself and joined the group of hysterical laughter. That day the professor christened me as ‘Shomaa’ for the rest of my B-School life and gave my friends an all new topic to pull my leg.
Which ABG company would I want to work for and why?
The fashion industry is one of the most dynamic and fast-growing industries which has expanded from brick and mortar trade to e-commerce. I would want to work for Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail as it has a repertory of lifestyle brands which caters to the fashion and clothing needs of a wide customer base. This is one industry where talent management is extensively in place. People with very niche, specialized skills work in this industry to exhibit their competency. There will be a lot to learn from them if I get an opportunity to work with them.
