In the recently organized
Dewang Mehta awards,
Dr. C.N.Narayana, one of the distinguished members of the IFIM Business School faculty, was awarded as the
Best Professor of Human Resources Management.
The event was held on 15
th of November, 2014 and like every other year was held in Mumbai. This was their 22
nd such ceremony. Dr. C. N. Narayana was elated by the results. He expressed his gratitude to IFIM, his friends and well-wishers.
As he is perpetually connected with his students especially through social media, he was asked whether the usage of social media should be encouraged for intellectually connecting with others. He was wholeheartedly all for it.
“Social media like LinkedIn, Facebook etc. should in my view be used as a connecting tool with student community; it not only brings out disappointments, expectations and happiness but also provides a platform of empowerment to express their view, which normally they may not have in the class rooms.” He said,” If you look at the frequency of daily updates by IFIM Business School, it is a great learning experience not only for students but also for professors like me. I feel it is a great opportunity tool to disseminate and share knowledge. LinkedIn Platform should be used effectively for discussion forums which can bring new insights and the discussions should be more of knowledge rather than just agreeing or disagreeing of viewpoints.”
His views on B-Schools strategy to create employable PGDM pool were also a revelation. According to him, IFIM has nearly 4.5 months intensive internship program, apart from Performance Enhancement Program which rightfully conforms to IFIM’s transformation theme. It basically explains holistic approach in creating management graduate pool who are industry ready. Students should be made strong in business fundamentals, focus on basics, made sensitive to current business practices and build the future scenario as well. Concepts can only teach theory; therefore, it is important to have management education from the perspective of dealing with uncertainties and ambiguities with the changes happening globally. All said and done however, students cannot be expected to implement their learning to a whole 100%, but an effort should be made to provide a journey closer to it, so that students have perspective, awareness and are keen to discover newer things.
