IIM Ranchi successfully hosted the first sports meet of the eastern IIMs – ‘Ignatia’. Enthusiastic participation was seen from IIM Calcutta, IIM Indore and IIM Raipur. For two days the air was heavily loaded with excitement, energy and competitiveness with each team displaying excellent athleticism and sporting abilities to claim the first trophy of Ignatia. It was a cocktail of exhilarating performances, great sportsmanship and camaraderie, even more enhanced by the pleasant climate of Ranchi. The event was well supported and sponsored by Central Coalfields Limited, Central Bank of India, Medica Ranchi and Khanaman.
On Day 1, the teams competed tactfully in a number of games like Cricket, Basketball, Volleyball, Football, etc. A lot of games witnessed nail biting finishes. Over the day IIM C showed its elite prowess in almost all the games. As the day was nearing its end, IIM C had already claimed gold in Basketball and Throwball. It was late in the evening but the energy was still running high. Now it was time for the final of men’s Volleyball match. IIM C was against IIM I. With an unmatched support for both the sides it was surely a treat for all the supporters and onlookers. The match was tied with each team winning one set. The third set and with that the gold medal was on the line. With huge screams and shouts on each point the game progressed in a thrilling fashion. It was IIM I who held their nerve and came out victorious in that epic battle. Soon after that the women’s Volleyball team of IIM C defeated IIM Ranchi to compensate for the previous loss.
The excitement continued on Day 2. This time the center stage was taken by Cricket and Football. Here also IIM C proved their might and claimed the first spot in both the games, defeating IIM R and IIM I in Cricket and football respectively. IIM C being the table toppers in Badminton were declared winners with the hosts finishing second. IIM Ranchi bagged gold in men’s Table Tennis and silver in both women’s Table Tennis and men’s Lawn Tennis. In Athletics IIM C ‘ran’ over the other teams, bagging 11 gold in all, leaving others far behind. The 3 C’s of Ignatia- Cricket, Carrom and Chess were also won by IIM C.
The event came to an end with the prize distribution ceremony. Mr V S Saini, CAO of IIM Ranchi felicitated the winners. The first trophy of Ignatia had JOKA written all over it. Well, the next edition of Ignatia will definitely take some time but the spirits are already high and teams are waiting to unleash themselves and be a part of this Inter-IIM sports history.
