While the paper was overall the same for everyone, the order of the sections changed for person to person. Given below is the paper pattern of SET A. However, the order of the questions for a given section for all the sets was the same.

IIFT Entrance 2014 Analysis
The IIFT 2014 paper, when compared to the IIFT 2013 paper, was similar and easier. However, IIFT 2014 paper would have turned out to be far more difficult than the CAT 2014 paper that a lot of students had written just the day before (22
nd Nov) or a week before (16
th Nov).
While the pattern of the paper was on predictable lines with hardly any change, the difficulty in scoring would have been a jolt to many a student.
The lengthy RCs, lengthier LR , unusually lengthy questions in Quant and a DI with more three tables each, made the IIFT 2014 paper pretty tough nut to crack.
The silver lining though is the fact that the cutoffs would be pretty low.
The challenge in an IIFT paper, unlike a CAT paper, is the requirement to plan the time limits and adhere to them.
Trying to solve 118 questions in 120 minutes is NOT easy when you have just written CAT (which has 100 questions in 170 minutes).
The cutoffs of the individual sections will therefore be lesser as students would end up giving more time to a section than others.
At the same time the OVERALL cutoff may be higher as students would maximize scores in that section to which they have given longer time.

Section I – Reading Comprehension and Verbal Ability (37 Q – 32 Marks)
The Verbal and RC section normally is the easiest to tackle in IIFT. However, with long passages in RC (longer than usual), the section was a bit of a nasty surprise. Though the questions were straight forward, time gets consumed in reading the passage and then tackling the questions.
However, the verbal part was pretty straight forward. Quite a few easy questions in Fill-in-the-blanks, analogies, vocabulary based and every grammar based were there for the picking. Time however could get consumed in the two varieties of para jumble questions that we given.
In about 35 minutes, one could have answered around 22- 25 questions (including couple of RCs)
Expected Cutoff : 7-8
Section II – Logical Ability (20 Q - 20 Marks)
The Logical ability section in this paper had almost all varieties of LA questions – Distribution & Arrangement, Syllogisms, Implicit assumptions, Letter Series, Input-Output and Decision Making. Almost all questions were doable except that the time available was limited.
Attempting around 12-15 questions in around 25 minutes would be a very good attempt.
Expected Cutoff – 7 - 8 marks
Section III –Data Interpretation & Quantitative Ability (35 Q - 35 Marks)
DI in IIFT has been traditionally lengthy and this year was no different. There were four sets of DI and almost all questions were solvable but not easy. It required calculations and carefully seeking data fro the tables and graphs given.
QA was lengthy too. There were questions from almost all areas of quant. However, trying to choose the questions to solve in the limited time available would have been a big challenge.
The cutoff in this section would be the least as one would get easily bogged down solving but a few questions.
By giving around 40 minutes in this section, a good student would have attempted around 15 to 17 questions.

Section IV – General Awareness (26 Q - 13 Marks)
The General awareness section was a mix of Current Affairs and Static General Awareness. Most of the questions could have been answered if one were following the news over the last five to six months carefully. Quite a few questions in sports were given including, Wimbledon, Pro-Kabbadi, Commonwealth Games and a question on the Brand Ambassador to Telangana State (Sania Mirza).
Expected cut off – 3 to 4 marks
