“You cannot discover new oceans unless you have the courage to lose the sight of the shore” - Andre Gide
When you already have a Bachelors' and Masters' (in Commerce) from one of the best universities (Delhi University) in this country, would you prefer going to the newest IIM which is just a year old and yet to live up to its name?
The above question was repeatedly thrown at me by my family/friends/relatives and it made the dilemma even worse. It is impossible to convince everyone around you but then you choose to convince the ones who matter the most. And here I am, one month into this IIM system trying to live up to its standards.
The question which comes to the mind before you join is “Would it be worth it?” But trust me one month down the lane, the real question is “Am I worth it?” Being mentored by IIM Lucknow, IIM Jammu maintains the highest quality academic standards and keeps you on your toes. Surprise Quizzes, Assignments, Projects, Presentations, Group Activities you have a lot on your plate together. Along with academics, you have committees/clubs, intra/inter-college festivals, competitions and what not. To manage all these together is no joke but this is what embarks your journey of becoming a good manager.
The beauty of the system is that it never fails to surprise you. You never know what’s coming to you and that keeps you grounded. It’s true that all of this is challenging but believe me it’s all worth it. The knowledge you acquire, the skills you develop, the connections you make all this is incomparable and it would prepare you for the real world challenges out there.
The mantra to survive here is pretty simple “Either you run the day, or the day runs you”. Good luck, the world of opportunities awaits you!
