“You are your dad’s princess, who knows nothing”. This is what I was told in my K interview. Now, let me tell you the story about how I cracked this interview. But first, let me walk you through the feelings, since it was an offline interview, about how it feels when you are entering the room but I am sure even when it is an online interview, the adrenaline rush makes sure that the stress level is maximum.
So, it was in Feb when I had my K interview scheduled and it was one of my best calls. After rushing to the hotel and making sure that I have all the documents as per the list that was mentioned, I finally reached the room where there were many candidates, looking as perplexed as me and stressed as to what was going to happen in their life because this one interview of 15 mins can change your life forever. While I was sitting in the hall waiting for the WAT process to begin, the professors came and walked us through the beautiful stories of their campus, God’s own campus. We gave the WAT and now, we're waiting for the interview turn.
I was sitting outside, I remember the lush green fragrance of the hotel and the chairs which witnessed the struggles and ambiguity and the stressful faces of the students. I was 3rd to enter into my interview panel and this is how my interview went:
P(panellist): Show us your CAT scorecard.
I(Interviewee): I don’t have it, Sir.
P: You look very serious about this interview. You look very relaxed and calm, how many interviews have you given till now?
I(Interviewee): Sir, CAP and MDI.
P: Your surname is very unique, what does it mean, does it has to do with some dance form?
I: Explained about the surname meaning and dance form of Rajasthan.
P: So, tell me about yourself and your family.
I: Just spoke one line about my family before I was interrupted.
P: Oh, your father owns a school, how many students are there, what is their fee structure, how many teachers have you hired?
I: Was telling but got interrupted
P: You know nothing about your school. You are your father’s princess who just cared about his money and he used to pamper you.
I: No sir, I know what all things happen there.
P: Make a Profit and loss statement of your school.
I: Made and shown them
I knew they are grilling me, so I just stayed calm and confident
P: Do you know who is Cyrus Mistry
I: Told, follow up questions kept on coming
P: What is RERA?
I: I don’t know, Sir.
P: Why should we take you? Why are you special?
I: Told confidently (the answer which I was preparing for very long, finally got the chance to say that)
P: Tell us about the regulatory bodies of India.
I: Could tell only 1
P: We are done. Thank You.
These 15 minutes were one of the most stressful times I had but I stayed calm and composed because deep down I knew, if I showed them my stress, it is not going to help at all. I was not expecting anything good from this interview hut the day the result came, I learnt a lot of things. Of course, I cleared the K interview without any waiting list, but what I learnt was:
- It is not important to know everything but to be honest about it.
- No matter how much they are grilling you, stay calm, stay confident, they are choosing for the future managers, do not show them you will underperform in pressure.
- Believe in yourself. You have worked really hard for it. So, just believe in yourself and you can achieve anything you want.
All the best!!
