Part A: Why Aditya Birla Group is big in my life
I would want to work for Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited as a Operations manager as the clothing outreach for ABG has a huge market potential and understanding the market and the operation implications involved on how they manage to cater to such a huge market demand.
With the opportunity of having this online presence to catering to different market segments with different brand and not just product lines is something I would want to learn about. How to operate for such a huge range of products and still maintain operational excellence overall.
Also, this retail sector is one of the key sectors in India and the market potential is huge. Plus the clothing market is something which can not have negative growth. It might have competitor but the competition is something we can deal with but not the decreasing market potential/share. Also, the fashion industry is something that gives us first hand knowledge and understanding of customer behaviour. Also. I want to understand the logistics industry of the clothing market as India is one of the major hubs for garment manufacturing along with its neighbouring country Bangladesh. This is due to the fact of the cheap labour in our country. We also have a huge textile base in the country and see how the ABG supply chain works to exploit this advantage. The best part about this industry is that everyone is potential customer of one segment of the other of the clothing segment of ABG. Hence, I can work for devising the strategy for reaching out to various customer segment.
Part B: How I overcame challenges to achieve my ambitions
The most challenging situation I have faced is not a big one but some total of few small incidents which keep giving you learning milestones on the journey of life.
The ambitions just don’t lie on your professional front but on your personal front as well. I have the ambition of overcoming the fears that I have in real life. Taking an small example of my recent trek to Hampta pass and Chandratal. The screnario was such that the place had received the highest snowfall in the past 25 years and this meant huge difficulty and inconvenience both for the trek organisers and the participants. The snow right from the first camp made me very scared. As each day went by the amount of surrounding us kept on increasing till the point we could just see snow around and no greenery. Walking and trekking on such snow-capped mountains is extremely dangerous and can make you feel very insignificant in life as compared to the huge natural bodies. But these challenges teach you a lot not just about how to physically test yourself but makes you discover traits about yourself that you would have never displayed. These can be very similar to some office scenarios that we see like how good a team player you are and how you motivate the fellow trekkers and team mates. How your keep the group or organisations’s interest above yours. So overcoming this challenge was a huge learning experience for me which will contribute to the ambition I have about my personality development.
