The new and finally own campus of IIM Rohtak is situated on National Highway 10 of the country, close to a quiet village place called Sunaria. The campus encompasses 200 acres of land and is an oasis of knowledge in the otherwise sport-frenzy state of Haryana. Moving into our own campus this year, the feeling of excitement and pride was akin to that experienced by someone moving from a rented home into his/her own house. We are the first batch to move into our permanent campus apart from being the only batch which has lived in both the campuses: the temporary and the permanent ones. Most of the basic construction has already been done and the frills are underway now.
Despite the college being quite some distance from what one would call a proper settlement, what keeps our campus going is the student initiatives undertaken by various groups in the college. There is a group of students who have come together to set up a store inside the campus. This takes care of most of the daily needs of the residents of our premise. Another group of students, aptly called the Student Council, is working day in and day out, in collaboration with the administration to ensure that we get all our requirements met. The Industry Relations and Interaction Cell works tirelessly to aggregate live projects and contacts for guest lectures for students. The Placement Committee does all in its capacity to get the best in the industry for the students. The number of committees working in different domains for different outcomes are numerous. The bottom-line, however, is the same for all: working selflessly for the betterment of the college and the individuals associated with it.
We have seen such societies and cells working in different environments in a lot of professional settings. But what distinguishes our campus from the others is the people who live in it. The campus is not only about sky-hugging buildings and state of the art amenities provided to students in the turnkey state. It is not only about how much area the premises acquire or how privileged one feels while sauntering down the halls of the buildings.
It is, more importantly, about the people who make the place worth living. The people who make it worth doing anything for. And IIM Rohtak is a paragon of just that. What makes my campus unique is the culture we have imbibed during the course of our stay here. What makes my campus unique is the feeling of living with your own family that all of us espouse. What makes my campus unique is the IIM Rohtak family members who stand by each other, come what may. What makes my campus unique is that it is not just a physical entity acquiring space but also a memorable emotional entity etched in all of our hearts, forever.
Which ABG company would I want to work for and why?
I would want to work for Idea Cellular. I am a person who is motivated by challenges and competitiveness. I firmly believe that healthy competition fosters values in competitors which are difficult to forget. Competition and emotionally invested competitors provide a conducive environment for participants to test their limits and try to achieve more with each passing day. The communications sector in the country is going through exactly the same phase. High competition with competitors leaving no stone unturned for going that extra mile that keeps the customer happy and the market interesting. Companies are undergoing acquisitions, mergers, price wars, etc. to grab that extra piece of the pie. This is the sort of work-environment that entices me. This is the sort of environment I would want to work in for in such an environment even a small element of progress gives one an immense sense of accomplishment. For me that sense of accomplishment is the dessert I would want to have after dinner and only then could I proceed to have a good night’s sleep.
